Punto (Mk2/2b) Meet Bumble-Bee

Introduction

Meet Bumble bee
replacing my beloved but now scrapped Mk2 Blue punto

Needs some bits doing to it - but i never leave cars alone anyway :)

So here he is
2004 on a 53 plate
58K
Yellow Active Sport (8v engine)
Alloys - nice grey interior and generally nice tidy motor that needs a little more tlc to make him better :)

So what has been done so far? Well its got a fairly new backbox - but middle pipe went, replaced under its warrenty

Given him a darn good clean and wash, but lasts all of 5 mins been yellow :(

Pulled all the roof gutter seals out and cleaned the rubbish out from there
Also had the windows screen trim rubber and cleaned all around there :)

what i wanna do is get everything cleaned up, tidy alot up
add a few features i want back in :)

But here we go :)

So i did the roof gutters - they were really really ready.... which means all the cack runs down the rear lights.....

So out they come

Should be ok, as yours is pretty much the same age as mine the only thing i have concerns over on mine are rubber bushes and the condition of the rear springs, which i plan to sort next week as my MOT is due next month well worth checking those

Im cautious itll fail due to handbrake been crap
Ive cleaned everything up loads but tge adjuster just keeps seizing up as it wont adjust for ages

Going early to bung it in and lets see whats what

Ziggy

Same here, cleaned mine up night before mot, I passed with the minimum % mark, one less and I would have failed..since then I have had a full overhaul of the braking system

Let's hope they're fresh faced and feeling generous ;)

Well it.................................

keep scrolling

Failed :(
4 items
OSR + NSR indicators not correct colour
O/S/F - ""obiously"" no beam pattern
N/S/F - Springs snapped

Fixed the indicators - £1 from halfrauds trade for 2 new bulbs :)
But what should be a 5min swap, took 30mins as 1 screw was seized solid, which i cheesed when trying to remove
Cut a fat flat slot in it - stuck a big screwdriver and worked it free :)
Refitted, and its only a little bit more orange like

Fixed the No beam
Bulb wasn't sat correctly in the holder, must of moved it when i pulled on its connector not long ago

The snapped spring - im tempted todo a damper and spring replacement
There 74k old, i live in a speed bump area, it might make the ride abit nicer again :)

sorry to hear it failed bud. how did you not notice the snapped spring?

its actually quite easy because they break in the lower cup so unluss you have the car in the air and the wheel in the air its easy to miss, sometimes they break and you dont see it because of the plastic coating

bulbs slightly off colour is an mot mans prerogative at times

headlight bulb pure sloppines in not checking on a wall prior to test:p

A local mechanic i used to use - says he's doing 4 to 5 springs a week very shortly after the speed bumps were installed

Its somewhat a recent development, as i do check them when a wheels off
But no noises or difference in the cars behaviour!

the bulbs to me are orange still, the new bulbs only look a tinge darker
The headlight bulb is my fault all the way

Had mine fail couple weeks ago as well. Both my front springs were snapped and i didn't have a clue either

If it makes you feel better it also failed on 16 other things....

Thats plain unlucky - 16 items.....

I've decided to spend some cash
New Shocks and Springs :) should transform the handling

Ziggy

Yeah, majority it all being welding work doing underneath. Wasn't worth the money to repair it. But im not complaining since i picked up the 1.8 Abarth for £1,100....46k miles, 1 lady owner who only used it for school runs etc...Couldn't say no!

Now that i think about it, I did not like going around bends/roundabouts because it just didn't feel "safe" without going slower then you'd expect. I guess that should of been my clue about the spings...

Well code 14 is terminal
Emergency call to local dealers to get new loom
Fpund one for under 10er
But a 30mile trip ontop of fitted before going away
FUN!!
Its at point now I reset and its 30mins to 1day and faults back

Stay tuned! !

Well..... its been 2months just gone....

Yes the new loom has cured the fault 100% - no resets required at all!

it had yet another oil change :) 75400miles :) but was just oil this time
i've been enjoying to nice fun with the car tbh :)
but an awful lot of slipping wheels and going wide on corners, i though nowt of it

So much so i forgot to check my tyres....
Tyre A.jpg
Tyre B.jpg

Some spots were smooth (less then 1.6mm) some were still at 2

So quick run into the shed to fish the winter rubber out!
Emergency wheels.jpg and an order to Camskill ASAP to get new rubber here quick!

luckily Camskill are always coming up trumps :)
Ordered Tuesday 16th, here thursday 17th
Run down to the local tyre shop and Boosh :) new rubber fitted
Only £130 down :(

New rubber.jpg

Older tyres then went from rear to front and new rubber sits happy on the rear :)

Lets see how a full set of tyres feel now :)

I remember paying £120 for a full set of 4 205/55/15s for my Mondeo what seems not that long back, now £130 for 2 is a bargain!

Just changed 2 front tyres on the mini £360 you can buy a whole punto for the price of 4 mini tyres !!
