They like a bit of oil yup. Not quite as much as some modern hondas do though like Type S/R Civics and the S2000's

Not sure what the RX8 is like but iirc the RX7 says in the manual to top the oil up every other fuel fillup

Any plans for it or leaving it as Mazda intended?

mate sold his today, he liked it but 18-20 a gallonwas killing his wallet. Was reliable for the 2 years he had it but had 3 starter motors in that time (was 05 plate with 22000 on it)

I do check the oil every saturday, and its usually every second saturday it needs just the tiniest amount of oil to bring it full level. I was at mazda getting the ECU flashed and its perforation inspection today so I'll see if the flash makes any difference to the oil used (as the squirters are controlled by the ECU and over tim, they trend to a lower output from what I've been told)

Plans are very basic for the car. Going to get the tyres sorted next week hopefully, The get the paintwork detailed. While thats happening I want to get the standard strut-brace powder-coated to match my wheels as a nice little touch then paint the callipers up and probably come the end of spring sell it and buy an Evo 7/8 or a Monaro for a ring trip I'm organising.

P.S. At best I've gotten 24mpg, at worst (flogging it continously) I've seen the car relieve me of £20 in less than 60 miles.

They are designed to use oil, part of the lubrication system, if it didn't use oil there'd be something wrong

I'm assuming you've been told about the flooding and stalling thing and the trick to avoid it?

They're a more adult car, like beemers etc. Which is why its probably being called a daddy car. cause dads would usually own them.

glad to know you take an interest in how it works well i never took any chances and if you rev it above 4k just after starting/before it's run for 2 mins you should be fine other wise enjoy

they are considered grown up, which is good from an insurance point of view and atleast you ain't labeled as a chav lol

yeah they are silly cheap, the depreaciation is but makes a great secondhand buy. you don't wanna know how many times i was empted by a trade in...

I can reccommend the Vredsteins, just had a set of 4 sessatas on my daily driver

If they havent been done already get the coils done as they can lead to failures, its not a cheap fix but cheaper than engine failure - so Ive been told, other that the oil and the coils like I mentioned I think they are pretty bullet proof as they arent as many moving parts like a regular 4stroke piston engine.

I toyed with getting one a while back but found there wasnt really enough information out there to keep me happy, and also tuning parts for the 8 are abit thin on the ground plus the mazdarotoryclub forum was abit slow so I soon lost interest.

Got new rubber for the wheels. Vredstein Ultrac Sessantas all round from Camskill (best price I could find in Britain even with delivery!

Unfortunately, I cant fit them to the car as its in at mazda getting some paint correction done under warranty. Can't fault them so far, they've been excellent to me even though I dont spend any money with them lol.

Only downside is I'm now rolling a kia Cee'd which is the dealerships sister company courtesy car

I'll get some pic's up as soon as its back and I've fitted them

Collected car back friday and immediately put the new shoes on. Really pleased with the wheels and they're growing on me more and more. Cant fault mazda, they've done, front and rear arches, replaced the bootlid and stoneguarded the sills. The sills weren't covered but they did them anyway and they've made a really good job.

Overall I'm pretty pleased, next is the standard strutbrace and the calipers
