Hi guys, hubby want to attach a trailer to "MY BOOCAR".
Does anyone know the maximum weight my boocar can saftely tow?

thanks:)

With brakes on the trailer you can tow upto about 1300kgs. The actual weight is the same as your kerbweight but 1300 allows a SMALL margin of safety. Ideally, 85% is a good safety margin making 1165kgs from memory but you van work that out I expect. Petrols are fractionally less. Unbraked your really lowering it down to less than half the above. Check your manual its all in there or Google it!

P.s.
Has anyone on here bought my old Multi "The Critter" Y247NNT? Last I heard it was around the Cannock, South Staffs, area. Sad to say its been just over a year now and I still miss it! So much more practical than my nosejob...it was just the little touches that are missing on this one that made the other so much better!

this is a twin axle trailer does this alter your calculations? Monica

also when did you / hubby pass your driving test if it was after Jan 1997 you will be restricted in what you can tow! if you passed before that you have Grandfather /Grandmother rights (how P.C. :p )

the 2006 multipla handbook gives these figures

Towable loads 100 16V ............................JTD 120

– trailer with brakes: 1200 (900)•.............1300 (900)•
– trailer without brakes: 560 ....................... 560

(all in KG)

(•) For specific markets

Nose weight is showing as 70KG (downward force on the tow ball)

If you want to be double sure

you need to read your VIN tag...

this is under the bonnet (silver aluminium tag)

Take F from E on the vin tag click on the pic to enlarge the manual copy

for a simple example if:

E shows 2500

F shows 2000

2500-2000= 500Kg trailer

Also remember that different speed limits apply - ie 60mph on motorways and dual carriageways, (and you may not use the third lane where there is one) and 50 mph on national speed limit roads where the normal restriction is 60 mph.

Twin axles make no difference to recommended towing weights or speed limits.
