Matching up amp & sub

Right, at the moment I have a JBL GT4-10 sub (250W RMS) being powered by a 200W RMS Sony amp (i.e. 1x200W RMS).

I've just read this:

Does everyone think that the amp and sub are well suited? When I installed everything, I thought it'd be fine, but now I ain't so sure.

A little underpowered but fine!

Personally id have gone for a 275w rms amp and turned the gain down.

It does have a low pass crossover doesnt it?

It'll be OK, just don't get carried away with the gain dial and you'll be fine.

I'm happier now I'm careful with the gain, just in case.

The amp was a bit of a bargain - 30 quid got me the amp & wiring kit off a friend.
