I agree, running rich is a favourite cause of poor hot starting. If the choke is staying on a bit and causing this it may be a good idea fit a wool operated system as I hear they're very good ;).
Seriously, I'd do the service and see how things stand, that could well sort it out.

Front panel/spoiler appears to be quite solid, I am going to give this a light rub down, dowse in k-rust before filling and repainting with hammerite. Should sort that out nicely.
 
Hello, nice to see another early metal grille Panda45 being saved for posterity! I've got an 'X' reg 45 myself, hoping to go to Stanford Hall or Gaydon this year so maybe we can fly the flag there for the earlier models!
Theres an Irish chap on here with an early one as well, a 1981 I think (mine's is an '82).
Keep posting details of the resto, I'll try and put photos of mine on here too, best regards, Norman (cacciatoren).
 
Don't bother with hammerite, it will soon chip and youll be back where you started. Use some zinc primer over the kurust, and then cover that with some stone chip, should last alot longer(y) Make sure you clean as much rust off as possible aswell.

The problem with hammerite is that it is too hard so as soon as something hits it it just cracks. I painted the sump guard on my Sisley with it before xmas and there is already rust coming back though(n)

Hi Norman, thanks for your post - what colour is your 45? Really look forward to your photos. It's great to know that we have another member in the metal grille gang!!!(y)

I will be spending this summer putting the car back together ready for show season 2012 and will defo be going to at least one AutoItalia show...Gaydon is favourite, last year was superb!(y)

Had a little spare time today:)

I started the car within a couple of turns and let it warm up - the fan came on which is always a good sign. I fixed the handbrake light which seemed to work when it wanted to and I also k-rusted the driver's side floor which looked a real mess. Looks a lot better now.

Finally gave the car a good wax and wipe, jobs a good 'un(y)

Sounds like fuel vaporisation. Fuel is suddenly becoming static in proximity to the hot engine and causing a vapour lock.

I have been away with work for a while - so work on my little car can now begin again in earnest. (y)

The carpet sent by Kev is in awesome condition for it's age - cant wait to get that down but it will be a while yet!!!

I want to get some body work done at the weekend, but we'll see how the time goes.;)
 
Have been very busy today, hope to put the interior back in quite soon...:cool:

Will defo put some black stuff on the boot mat too - interior will look very tidy when all put back.

Still need:

Headlining
Rear window latches
Interior light door switches (both sides)

My poor little car looks like a patchwork quilt at the mo!

Hi Martin, good to see you're cracking on.

Mine doesn't have a headlining either, I assumed they just didn't have them back then, what are your thoughts on it?
