Can anyone give any advice on the best way to fault find low power issues with this car. At the moment I have the EGR valve blanked off but there is still a huge lack of power. Also the car seems to hit a brick wall at about 3000RPM and I have noticed a funny little halve whistle coming from the engine bay when dropping of the accelerater pedal. It will still cruise down the motorway at a healthy speed but takes an age to get there.
I have changed oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter just in case but no better.

I have FIAT ECU SCAN and a cable but am a bit of a noob when it comes to turbo diesels and what to look for. If it were an old petrol I'd swear the vacuum advance pipe had dropped off.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the MAF has gone - take the connections off and see if there's any difference ?

It's in-line after the air filter - at the front of the car.

Wow. Where did all that poke come from. I checked the boost pressure with Fiat ECU Scan and it tracked pretty well. Turns out glaurenson was spot on. Unplugged the MAF and all those horses returned. Thanks very much indeed. Now to get a new MAF. I suppose avoiding Ebay would be prudent.

Thanks once again!

If you check out my post about acceleration problems, Johnson550 has kindly put some photo's on it showing how to clean the MAF, might be worth a go before spending out on a new one

hi, thanks to all of you, i got the same problem and now bypass the MAF sensor, i will try to clean Maf sensor soon and see what happen. If you got good and cheap MAF please share.. And if you know where ecu diagnostic port location please share too. Mine is Marea Weekend jtd 105..

What about the opposite problem, almost no power at the bottom end but then better if you rev like mad? Mine is a 110 JTD an has just been serviced in an attempt to sort it out but it still smokes instead of pulling, particularly on hill starts. Any ideas? Thank you.

does it smoke when idling / ticking over..??,
sounds like a "dribbling injector",

letting too much fuel pass into the engine, as rev's / fuel load increases , it's dribbling will be less noticeable.

maybe worth doing a "re-learn" too to reset basic settings ( battery off for a few hours),

No smoke at tickover, just when pulling hard below 2000 rpm. The dealership have been cleaning up the fuel system (for free!) and it is improving matters slightly. They think its low fuel pressure and have warned me I may have to replace the high pressure pump (scarily expensive) but want to get the injectors out and clean them first. They say the diesel is not spraying properly and so is not burning quickly enough.
