Hi

I've suddenly found that I'm unable to open my bonnet (which is v.annoying in this weather as for a start I need to fill the washer bottle!!). The cable attached to the lever under the steering wheel still appears to be taught, so I'm guessing this has something to do with the catch at the other end.

Any tips? Is this something I can fix myself (I make no claims about any ability in this area!) or should I be taking this to a garage?

Any help gratefully received.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.:D

If the cable is taught then as you rightly assume it is unlikely to be snapped. Have you tried after a run incase it's just frozen?

It is possible to get to the catch yourself, but, it's a right pain. Unless you have access to a ramp or pit, I would suggest a trip to the garage.:(

Only other thing it could be is a loose bonnet, get a hold of the front of the bonnet and see if you can move it side to side. Not too hard though.

Dave. :)

Thanks for the tips. This was happening before the big freeze we have just experienced, so I don't think it will be frozen. I'll try your suggestion re: the loose bonnet, but I think I'll just have to brace myself for a trip to the local garage.

Cheers

Mine sometimes sticks on the Weekend, I've tried greasing it, realining it etc to no avail. It has just become a two man job.....
If I lift the bonnet at the same time Mrs P pulls the release it opens fine, it just doesn't want to pop up on the spring.
