Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I did a search (honest).

I have a Marea Weekend 100SX. First registered January 2000. With ABS.

I just replaced the rear hub/bearing. Did all the usual research so that I got the right part. Queried everything with my local motor factor, gave model and Reg No etc. He phoned me later to ask if I had a Mk1 or Mk2. Hmmm. I didn't know that one. He ordered the part based on the info I'd previously given him. It arrived next day. 29 quid. 3 days later the nut I ordered from my Fiat garage arrived. Set about the job. Took longer to get the drum off than it did to do the rest of the job.

Snag!

Hub is identical to the one I took off EXCEPT the splines for the ABS are much larger. The old one had tiny splines which disintegrated when I touched them.

Faced with sticking the old hub back on and using my new nut and listening to the drum, drum drumming as I drive while I searched around for an identical part (and probably having no ABS as the splines had gone) or sticking the new hub on and having a relatively silent drive (and no ABS) I opted for the latter.

SO

Can anyone tell me what type of hub/ABS I have so I can order the correct part and fork out more dosh? Or should I pull the fuse on the ABS to extinguish the warning light and hone my cadence braking skills?

You have to let the Garage off the hook here. Fiat parts are confusing, when I got a replacement electric mirror for the Tempra the storeman at Thames Fiat said, come round here and look at the microfiche yourself! It was a mess:mad: ! I did get the right one but I think it was just luck. Then you have to add in the the fact that they will never stop the line, so if a part from another model will fit and is around when the proper one isn't on it goes:bang: . Thats why it says "we reserve the right to change spec without notice" in the sales catalogue LOL.

get the later abs sensor and it will fit onto the newer spline pattern, or (this is what i woud do) glue your abs sensor in position.

ABS light or lack of ABS light will fail an MOT. If you are planning on keeping the car you need to fix it so the ABS light works for the MOT.

Thanks Kev. That was something I was wondering about.

I have the best part of a year to get it sorted before the MOT. In the meantime I'm enjoying the quiet ride.

I suspect I'll pop in to my local motor factor with the old part and get them to order the correct hub. One day.

Thanks to all for their replies.
