Hi guys, hope you are all well. My problem is this; on my 98 marea 1.8 elx the horn developed a problem of staying on all the time so i took the fuse out and took it to fiat in hayes middlesex, they said i needed a new steering wheel and wanted to charge me 580 quid for it!! i made my excuses and left- well, that was two weeks ago and my power steering suddenly failed today as i was turning a corner- almost didnt make the turn, all the dash lights came on and then as quickly as it came it went back to normal. I had a full service (not fiat) shortly before the horn problem and the levels are fine. My question is this- could they have buggered something to do with my steering when they took my wheel off? or is it unconected? Many many thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this.

Best wishes to all

Neil

Hi guys thanks for the response-please excuse my ignorance but if the engine stalls, surely it stops? the engine kept running perfectly when this happened at no point did it cut out. it went back to normal as quick as it came on and was ok. This has happened twice now

Might be worth a trip to fiat for a diag. Could be a number of probs from fuel feed to cam sensors.

Something caused the revs to drop very low hence the lack of PAS and the lights coming on, basically it stalled but sounds like the ECU caught it.

i forgot to mention they did the cam belt at the same time as my horn, but surely this is nowhere near the steering is it?

er yes it is. The power steering is powered by the same belt from memory. They would more than likely have to take the belt off to do the cambelt. Could the belts be slipping?

the power steering belt and the alternator belt are one and the same?
anyway this is what went wrong with my bravo follwing a cambelt change, ended up without my car for 9 weeks and costing another £600ish. Take it back to the garage.

Thanks a million guys im taking it back the very first thing monday morning, sorry for my ignorance and a thousand thanks for your patience.

Best wishes
