I have a 2000(W) Marea 155HLX. I have put 17ins alloys and have lowered it by 40mm.

From the drivers side there is a knocking/rattling noise when driving on bumpy roads.

Has anyone had the same problem and Can anybody help????

knocking noise

have you had the modified lower anti roll bar bushes fitted yet ? if not that could be your problem. my marea had the same problem.

Most likely to be either a shot lower ball joint or worn wheel bearing.

Re: Re: MAREA HLX - Knocking noise

Can a damamged ball joint at Track Rod End (Tie-Rod) caused the knocking sound?

Regards,

Syed.

Mine does it too

Is this knocking noise a known problem? My 2000 100SX Weekend has been doing it for a couple of months. The noise disappears when cornering, so would support your statement.
What would be the damage to fix this?

cheers

George

Re: Re: Re: MAREA HLX - Knocking noise

My lower ball joint is 'worn to excess' yet doesn't make any noise. Ball joints typically cost £10 but teh Bravo is integral to the lower arm so the whole arm must be changed, part costs £38 (non-Fiat).

Knocking noise on Bravo HGT

I have the same knocking noise and cant work out what it is!! I have recently changed the shocks, springs, and this has made no change. Was hoping thje top mounts may need replacing, but they are ok too. All the ball joints have no play. My outer anti roll bar bushes have been replaced, the inner ones seem ok.
My ateering rack does not appear to be loose however there seems to be a little play on the drivers side. I changed the inner ball joint, still no change.
I am running out of ideas and i am not just going to change parts for the sake of it.
Any ideas anyone?

Noise

Sandro,

Have you tried to change the track rod end. It could be the fault. I have done the same thing what you have done, accept changing the track rod end. Which most mechanics say could be it (without testing). Any news, please update me.

Syed.

knocking noise

Hi Syedtaq,

i have checked them, they are fine, one outer one was replaced 12 months ago and recently changed and inner one. There is nothing wrong with the joints. I had the car on the ramps at work yesterday and there appears to be some play in the rack on the drivers side!!!! no play on the passenger side!! I hope that can be adjusted!!

Re: knocking noise

cheers for that. but i have had the problem sorted out, it was actually the shock absorber which was making the knocking noise. The shock absorber had gone straight after lowerin the car, i changed the front shocks and the car is driving fine, no knocking noises since!!

hi

i have a knocking sound too!!
i poseted a post 'whos that knocking on my floor' a while back

maybe peoples replys to that will help, ive just left it now and accept the fact that it nocks, but god knows what it is. it must be common?

Re: hi

Matty, did you investigate any of the suggested causes of your knocking?

Re: knocking noise

Is it a 'clunk' or 'thump' noise or more of a rattle noise?

Re: Re: knocking noise

clunk,

i have had it on ramps and pissed about wiggling things but no luck, im skint at the mo so what im gonna do is just take it to my mate and see what he can do, it tends to get worse over bumps n cornering, when im doing anything from 40mph and over it doesnt clunk at all, only kocks when going slowly,

also just to add, ive noticed when i brake it seems kind of shakey......could this be related?

Re: Re: Re: knocking noise

Is it clunk-clunk-clunk constantly getting faster with speed?

What is the shake when braking? Does the steering wheel shake or does the whole car shake?

Sounds wheel bearing-ey to me.

Did you give the wheels a darn good wobbling?

yeah

i did mate, the shaking isnt to bad its just i noticed when i brake the brake pedle and the car itself kind of shakes to a stop, its the bloody knocking sound that gets on my nerves, its deffo a clunky sound,

Re: yeah

It must be a wheel bearing somewhere. Jack up each corner in turn and give each wheel a good yank. (just don't pull it off the jack!!) One should clunk.

If it didn't increase with speed then I'd say its a bush or ball joint.

cheers

cheers tom, im going to go now and have a look, im quite certain its the drivers side front wheel, but ill check all to be safe,
thanks a lot m8
