I am pretty sure that I have a clutch related problem with my 2001 1.6 Petrol

Went out for a drive today, all was normal, arrived at my destination, went to select reverse and there was a graunch when selecting it (never does this usually) anyway, when it netrual I can hear what is a rattle under the bonnet, which increases in sound when blipping the throttle (Im clutch related, its not engine related as all is running well) anyway, thought I would head home, only a 3 mile trip, very difficult to pull away without a judder in first, the rest of the gears engage fine, without any slip

Im thinking something like a clutch release bearing ?

From reading previous posts, I am thinking its a clutch change job, any ideas what I should be paying for a garage to carry out the job ?

Thanks

HI,

About a year ago i had the same kind of problem, the clutch would just about disengage so i could change gear. if i had to stop i had to turn off the engine, put it in second gear and turn the engine over to start it again..

Anyway it turned out to be the rivets on the clutch plate shearing and the noise was the rivets rolling around in the clutch housing.

Thanks for the reply, Im assuming its a complete clutch replacement ?

Yep, sounds like a release bearing problem.
If you release the clutch you will most likely hear a
change in the noise.

Had the exact same problem on my 1997 1.6 16V Marea.
I replaced the complete clutch and cleaned the flywheel.
I did it in 4 hours with help from a friend and a lift.

Still havent got the car back, taking some time thats for sure, seeing as it went in first thing Monday

Latest is they are waiting for some new half shaft studs ? I didnt think you would have to remove the drive shafts to do the job though !

Yes my friend, drive shafts are dropped at engine end to enable removal of the gearbox/clutch bellhousing to gain access to the clutch itself.
