Simon, had the same problem on mine when i bought it. It's also a 1.8 HLX ('96). Whats happened is that the catch on the cable just inside the handle compartment has worn. The small thunder shaped metal piece (wait for it) has bent the wrong way as is slipping everytime you pull the handle.

Solution: lever out the plastic piece which disappears into the seat when pulling the handle up. This will reveal a screw. undo the screw and pull the handle off. They are very tight so don't wimp out. Now you should see the thunder shaped metal piece positioned through the handle catch. If you can't, well, it's fell down and you'll have to retrieve it. To now gain more access to the cable there are two further screws top and bottom of the remaining plastic surrounding. Take it off.

Hey presto!!! Bend that piece of metal back into position and it shouldn't slip therefore gripping the cable and allowing access to the rear.

This thunder shaped piece of metal i'm on about is the shape of the thunder bolt it self, may sound as if i've lost the plot but you'll know what i mean when you do it.

Incredibly simple. 10mins MAX. All you need is a medium sized philips screwdriver and a set of long nose pliers (or something similar).

Give me a shout if this means apsolute bollucks....!

By virtue of you owning a Fiat, you will have many problems. I know, I've had then since 1993 though very shortly I intend to turn Japanese.

Civic Type-R.

Re: Re: MANY PROBLEMS!!!

Why, if fiats are so crap have you owned them for ten years?
I'm interested to know as, you seem to do nothing but complain about these cars.

Re: Re: Re: MANY PROBLEMS!!!

I never said they were crap, but you just did.

As a pointer, clever boy, I have also owned Japanese cars, I just prefer Italian ones, their stylying and quirkiness is excellent, unluke their build quality and reliability. What has my car choice got to do with you?

A Form is a place to voice an opinion and you will not stop me voicing mine, or for that matter, stating fact.

Got the picture? Good.

Re: Re: Re: Re: MANY PROBLEMS!!!

Does this mean you may be leaving the forum and going to a Jap forum?
