Could anyone tell me the correct approach for the removal and servicing/cleaning of the MAF. I suspect this has never been removed from the car and reading a few threads it may improve the performance of my 1.8 16v 115 Weekend if it could be cleaned. The car idles correctly at around 750 rpm but pulling away can be stuttery at times as though the mixture isn't necessarily correct. I had an emission problem which has improved by replacing the Lambda and some service issues but i still think it can be improved.
I've looked through some manuals but nothing relates to the MAF and servicing aspects or even the removal of the unit. It could be relatively simple but as usual i don't want to be doing something that i've never done before and potentially create a further problem.

Your help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the pointers Mickey but i still have a problem.
I must admit i must be missing something or i'm just being thick with it being a Sunday. I've had a look under the bonnet and can't find anything that looks like the pictures at all. From the Air filter box the air intake pipes goes directly to what i think is the throttle assembly. The manuals all point to the car having a Air Flow Meter but the location and the removal are not obvious unless it's contained within the throttle assembly on mine.
Any help will be greatly received on this occasion.

The pictures and info relate to a diesel, mine is a petrol. Should there be any major difference or do i just not have one because of this? If it's the latter i'll go away and shut up :)

The dilemma i have, and hopefully these pics will help in all of this, is i think there might have been a slight modification/update in the build of the car from the manufacturers. Having checked the CD manual there is a 1999 update that doesn't list an Air Flow Meter as being fitted.

As i said, from the Air Filter Box it goes straight to the throttle housing. No Air Flow Meter at any point.
Has anyone else got a setup similar to this?
