Well this weekend, with the weather at least being dry, it was time to work on the van. The drivers side MacPherson Strut needed replacing as all the oil had come out and it was not working as a damper any more. I am old enough to know from many past experiences this was going to a serious challenge and fight between rusty seized bolts and man... It well lived up to my expectations so no disappointment there. Many thanks to Jake for the loan of an impact driver, first time I have used one, I had tried a breaker bar and very long scaffold pole on the bolts that hold the strut to the hub, and nothing shifted, one quick blast on the impact driver and wow the bolt was out. What a fantastic tool that is. The long slog or removing the old strut and top mount then fitting the new spring to the new strut and eventually putting everything back, only took 2 days.

Just off for the first test drive will report how it goes assuming I get home again... Yes back home all much better.
