Hi,
Correct grade is 75W85 GL4. The GL4 is the most important, followed by the viscosity. Difference between a 75W80 and a 75W80 is minimal in terms of viscocity but you should try to get the 85 weight. It's quite hard to find a 75W85 in GL4, most are GL5. Straight or synthetic does not really matter oter than life, but syntetic in normally preferred. Moast 75W85 GL4 yu can find will be synthetic. Redlime MT85 is popular. If you have trouble finding oil try a Vauxhall dealer and ask for garbox oil for a Vectra C 1.9 CDTI 6 speed. This uses the M32 'box. What you have will not cause instant destruction as long as it's GL4, but it's not ideal.

That's what I have in at the min

That is not quite the right viscosity, it is slightly thinner when hot. It may be a problem on longer runs at high speed and or load. Not an immediate issue but not ideal.

Thanks for the help mate I don't want to brake my gearbox as not long had it recond so wanted to be on the safe side I will get it changed asap

+1 to redline mt85

That's great, thank you Bernie.
Could you check on the mount for the other side of the engine for me too please, I want to make sure I order the correct ones so I don't have to send back and reorder parts. The other mount I'm referring to is underneath the battery.
Your help with this is very much appreciated Bernie, thank you!

Both are very good. Choice would be based on cost, availability and personal opinion. Not necessarily in that order.;)

This may be a bit of an obvious question but I'd rather dot the i's & cross the t's by asking anyway.

(My 1.3 GP M20 box has done 77k, and having just read about the problems with the box, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to drain and refill with fresh oil, to do what I can to keep this box going.)

Would you recommend drain and refill with fresh oil, or check level and top up?
And if refill, how much?

The reason I ask is because someone in the past mentioned to me about only topping up gearbox oil not replacing it, though he was quite old.
And I also read somewhere that you should put more than the amount which it states in the handbook (2.08L), as the manufacturer did not put enough in!?

I'd be glad to hear your views and advice on this.

Cheers
Daniel.

Hi,
You cannot check the oil level on the M32 gearbox. The only option is to drain and refill the gearbox.
The correct quantity of oil is 2.2l (unless you have split the casing to do work inside the 'box in which case it needs 2.4l). The plug on the side is NOT a level check point.
The oil quantity for the M32 was revised during production and the latest (2.2l) quantity should be used.
I would recommend a oil change if you intend to keep the car.

Just realised you say M20 gearbox, is this correct? I know little about the M20 other than its very similar to the M32 but has lower torque rating. I cannot confirm the oil quantity required, but a web search indicates it may be the same as the M32.
Sorry for any confusion.

That's great thanks Robert, I intend on keeping the car, so I will go ahead with drain and refill, I guess it can't do it any harm, fresh oil.
Thanks again for your advice, it's much appreciated.

Yes Robert corrected himself when replying second time. I'm going to the oil change on the box to try to preserve it as best as I can.

I just need the part number for the other engine mount under the battery, if you wouldn't mind getting that for me Bernie please, that'd be great.

Thanks again.
