Hi ,

I have a 97 1.8 hlx , I've just changed the lambda sensor as it was suffering from a violent missfiring when under load, the problem didn't improve until I disconnected the battery . However, it is still lumpy and has poor drivability, Any Ideas.. The spark plugs have only done 1000 miles.

thanx

Lumpy Running

Hi John,

Had a similar problem on my 145 cloverleaf recently, problem was eventually traced to a faulty temperature sender sensor. Trouble with them is that they dont always show up on diagnostic machines. Cost £29 - that cured it once the lambda was done as well !

Hope thats useful

Thanx dave,
Has your 145 got the same 1747cc engine. If so where is the paticular sensor located as there are a few of them.

Sensor Location

John,

I think our engines are basically set out the same, the temp sensor is located just to the right of the engine. Its on a section of the engine just coming out from the side of the head with water pipes connected to it. It will probably have a blue top although it could be green with a small metal clip holding the electronic connecter in place. Once you unclip it you will see it made of brass & its easliy unscrewed - but be careful dont undo it if the engines hot otherwise you'll get a face full of water & anti-freeze like i did !!

Good hunting !

Dave
