lumpy multipla

I have just bought a multipla 2003 1.9jtd which I am really pleased with, however, it seems to run a bit lumpy at low speeds in 1st and 2nd gear.once you get above 2000 rpm its runs very smoothly .any help or comments would be appreciated thanks very much.
