Hi guys

I need expert advice from anyone who can help me diagnose my problem im having with my 2002 fiat seicento sporting 1.1 mpi. I receive a low oil pressure warning momentary when its really hot outside and when been driving for a while. It happens when standing at a robot the light goes on and off intermidiatly and i sumtimes feel car almost stall when it happens. reving engine resolves issue. The engine has 141000km and im using 10w40 semi synthetic oil. oil was changed about 5 months ago and original fiat oil filter fitted.

Im thinking it might be faulty oil pressure switch or worn oil pump or just too hot. weather reaches 40 degrees or more when i get this problem. i change oil often and always use 10w40 of high quality. first problem im having with this car. had a fsh when bought 2nd hand.

If it is the pressure switch or oil pump i would really appreciate a guide where to find the switch or how to change pump. if its the spring valve relief is it part of the oil pump assembly? can it be fixed?

Thanks for always helpfull advice!

the oil pressure switch is located near the crank pulley its more than likely that is at fault never heard of oil pump problems with any fiat engines could be a bit of dirt or anything lyk

The pump assembly is on the end of the crank. If the oil is really hot and the engine idles too low then the pressure may drop enough to switch the light on.

I wouldn't like to think that the low oil pressure was causing the engine to almost stall, its hopefully the almost stall that lowers the oil pressure.

The switch is cheap enough and easy enough to change so that would be the first port of call.

Beyond that a gauge, whether temporary for testing purposes or fixed would tell you exactly what is happening.

Oil pump is quiteesay to change but needs the sump removing, which is very time consuming as it needs cut off.

Cheers

my 550 kwak does this on hot days, its an air/oil cooled MC engine (12000rpm) and its caused by oil getting to thin dues to temp oil thins, cant be put under the same pressure when the oil pump is idleing then as you rev the engine the fault goes away... let the engine cool, fault goes away, try thicker oil.

more support to my theory (on MC engines) if i used 10-30 or even 5-30 the oil pressure light would always be on at operation temp on idle (700rpm) but with 10-40 only when the oil was to hot so i used this as a gauge to tell me the engine is now over temping and pull over to let her cool down

i had a diagram somewhere but i cant find it,

Thank you for all the replies i will have a look at oil switch and the wire. My car does idle a bit low so that could be the problem. Anyone plz be so kind to tell me how to make car idle higher? It idles rough at operating temp about 600 rpm and i read it should be around 800 rpm

thank you

Hi everyone thanks for new replies, I think the problem to my low oil pressure is the low ideling im still having. I have been reading a few threads and it might be my idle control valve thats cloged. If im not mistaking the pressure switch is activated by my irratic idle and thats why it goes on and off when hot. My air intake is clean around butterfly flap so i think its a sensor in throttle body maby icv.

Can anyone tell me where to find it and how to remove and proper way to clean. Is it the item with 100 kPa writen on, on right side of throttle body?

Thanks everyone
