hey guys, I have a 1.6 petrol stilo im getting a low oil pressure warning light at low revs. Specifically below 1000. When the throttle is pressed and the revs go above 1000 the light goes out. When first starting the car all seems well this only happens after afew miles of driving.
I have changed the oil and filter.
Would alternator belt slipping/not tight enough cause this, had the belts changed recently and there is some slipping when wet.

Belt slip will not be the cause.

It may be that the oil pressure sensor is dysfunctional and requires replacement or that the oil you have used is too thin i.e. 0-30SAE - not so likely.

The worst scenario is that the big-end shells have worn and are in need replacing, but this is likely to be accompanied by a dull knocking.

HTH

I think you are quite right. When the engine revs up, the pressure rises. It's an early symptom of a pressure sensor saying goodbye. But it's simple to change (you will get oil in your eyes) and probably one of the cheapest genuine parts avaliable from Fiat.

What oilfilter have you used? Genuine or cheap crap?

thanks for the replies, changed the pressure switch which was leaking oil from the connector which I imagine it shouldn't be. All seems ok at the moment.
