My X reg Bravo has been the best car I have owned yet. Forgiving its 93k miles on the clock I have recently been experiencing problems with it cutting out at really random times - and I have to say in pretty dangerous places too, like when I'm approaching an island it cuts out, loosing power steering etc, or in the fast lane on the motorway the power dies. Frantically I have to turn the engine over whilst heading straight for the car or island in front. Also, I have also noticed that the pull-off power is really erratic and sluggish. Its been in to the garage several times - service, new air filter, altinator checked and passed as ok - and some £400 later its still not fixed. Can anyone enlighten me?! Is it a common fault, tricks of the trade I need to be aware of. Its not just happening to me, a friend has a younger Punto and they have been experiencing the same.
All advice and guidance welcomed.

the cutting out when you press the clutch may be you ICV (idle control valve) i had this problem, not with my bravo but with a vauxhall!

i was pressing the clutch or coasting to a junction and the revs would drop all the way down and stalling the car, while the car was moving it was fine cause the movement was keepin the engine runnin.

dont know if this is similar, or whether it helps at all!

Take it somewhere where you can get it plugged in for a diagnostic where YOU can see what the result is. Then go from there.
