Hi, I have a GPs and want to upgrade the front and rear speakers, new tweeters and an amp to power them. And a single sub in the boot again with an amp which my G'Fs dad will make me a false floor for as he is carpenter.

I have a few question:
are www.theloudest.co.uk any good?

would I need to replace the battery? as I do not fancy letting the charge drop on my gp as it causes so much hasstle

anybody got any suggestions as to what speakers etc to buy?
(not FLY or FUSION or any other halfords stuff)

Yeah we need a budget. If you want to go loud then you aught to go second hand. Also building proper baffles for the front speakers. Then you will need to build/ buy a proper enclosure. The sealed prefab things just won't do.

Oh and steer clear of theloudest

Ok well you will need a half decent head unit. I would say allow £150 for one either new of second hand about £100+.
Stick with Alpine, Pioneer and kenwood and you will be fine.

Don't worry about rear speakers. The front will be loud enough. If you other halfs dad is a chippie then the front speaker baffles should be easy to make. Just ask him to copy the original pods trying to keep as much as an outward chamfer as possible. I can dig some pics of mine out when I can get to a computer so you can show him what you mean.

You will need to sound deaden. I would at least do the front doors and boot floor. This is essential to any kind of install. Obviously a car is flimsy metal and needs to be made more solid so the speakers can work to their peak. Let me know when you need some and I will sort it out for you.

Where is it you live. If you are serious about doing a big sound install then you aught to get to listen to some different cars. If you want really really loud then you can get PA mid bass drivers and Bullet tweeters but these aren't for everybody.

Subs your going to want at least 800-1000w RMS. if your doing it piece by piece then keep an eye out for the likes Ascendent Audio (AA), Digital Designs (DD), DC, RE and Hertz SPL range. They are the big players in Street Bass. Then look for or build an enclosure designed for your sub tuned to 27 to 30hz. Have a look on google for port tuning for some bed time reading.

Thanks very much for that. wow is all i can say i didnt think there was that much ''science'' to making a sub woofer encolsure, so basicly you could have the best speaker in the world but if its not in the right encolsure then it wont perform to its full potential?

hmm i got a lot of research and thinking to do lol

You have hit the nail on the head. People who compete in SPL competitions spend months building, testing and then rebuilding, testing, tweaking and tuning the enclosure.
