Ive currently got a 1.9 Sporting GP and looking to get a head unit to replace the factory fitted one.

The main thing im looking for is one with a TFT screen or suchlike.

I thought I had struck gold when I came across the Kenwood KIV-700 as it has everything im looking for and around the right price, however the only major downfall stopping me from buying is that you cant remove the faceplate! Ive umm'd and ahh'd but I just wouldnt want to come back to my car to find the window smashed and the stereo nicked!

The other option that I kind of like is the Parrot Asteroid. Being an Android user and playing my music from USB (Yup, not a single 'iProduct' in my house!) this seems like another great choice. Looks nice, not to sure on 100% of the features, but again, its open source and aimed towards Android more then Apple.

Ideally I would want to keep Blue&me, so ive contacted Paser to see if their kit would work with Parrot as its not mentioned on their list - just waiting to hear back.

Just looking for anyones comments on the above products, or whether you would be able to suggest anything else that may be suitable. Really looking for something with a nice screen, rather then the set 4/5 lines of text.

Hi Santa, Thanks for the reply.

Very nice unit, but I can only fit a single din. Plus my budget wouldnt stretch to £700! (Well it would, but the missus wont let it! At a push £250 is probably max)

I have looked at a few single din head units that have the large screen pop out, but not really a huge fan.

Had a quick look at the parrot in Halfords today, did look quite impressive.

Hi Grainge,

Just had a look online and looks pretty good. The only thing missing for me is the TFT type screen.

If all you are concerned with is having an full colour LCD display Then what ever you get for the budget you have is only going to suceed at one thing, looking flashy.

The parrot (aside from being a French company, who are not exactly renowned for electronics) is a completely new concept in car audio technology, except it lacks even the most basic demand for a radio in this sector of the market, 'DAB' the android software gets awful reviews for not having any useful apps that don't require some sort of paid subscription. And because it's a whole new idea the issue of sound quality and reproduction seems to get forgotten time and time again in reviews. The only good thing about it is the ability to connect any iPod or USB mass storage. I wouldn't buy it. Don't get me wrong I think it has potential for the future but I think if you're an early adopter on this one you are going to suffer one way or another.
