Middle rear seatbelt on Marea is locked. Any tips on how to repair/unlock/access/replace.

- Use button, if that fails...
- Use hammer and smash it to pieces, go scrappy get another one.

Not worth stripping, it repairing as it'll be more unsafe.

It's not locked as in connected and doesn't come apart. It doesn't un-reel or un-wind. It has locked as if I had jumped on the brakes. But it wont release so I can't un-wind it and fasten the damn thing.

It's not a Lap Belt, it's one of those like on the front seats (can't think what they're called) the connectors are white, it's the middle one. The belts either side of it, the connectors are black. It's a W2000 HLX Estate.

I guess fiat made a modification along the line someplace.

This is what i've seen in a marea.

However i found this

Looks like they do come with a proper belt on some models.

I dunno what you could do with that mate, perhaps see if the plastic housing can be removed if it has one.

Or you could try putting the rear seats down and see if it has an access panel, or to see if you can remove the backing of the seat off.

Never seen a marea with rear seat belts in the middle so its new to me.

That's the one. notice the white connectors for the middle belt.
I appreciate your help and thank you.
I have tried tilting the seat in different positions and pulling the belt out but it didn't work. I've tried to access the reel by taking the back off the seat but it's un-accessable. It's actually housed in the middle of the seat and it's a bugger to get to.
keep sending the tips I'm prepared to try almost anything before giving up on it.
Again, thanks for your help.

I dunno mate, its a new thing i've seen altogether.

I'm sure someone in the next few days will have an answer for ya.

I hope it don't come to buying new rear seats.

Have you tried spliting the seats 2/3 and see if it can be access from the side.

It must be accessible as if it breaks it must need to be renewed for it to pass an MOT.

Have you tried asking the dreaded Fiat Dealer?

J

You could always cut it off and fit a lapbelt in on the cheap side.

If you do manage to get to the bit the belt winder and decide to open it.
First off i'd recommend you be very, very careful this is designed to save lifes not look pretty.
If you do deside to take a look inside it you will find a small pendulum linked to a large round cog.
As you brake hard the pendulum swings forward and a hook engages in the cog stopping it from turning (the seatbelt locks)
This pendulum can get stiff and become engaged in the locked position if you just move it back to it's original position it should unlock the belt.
Make sure this pendulum is free to do it's job before and after you re-assemble the belt caseing.
This should see your seatbelt returned to normal but please make sure it is correct or better still get someone else to check it is correct (it's easy to look at something and say "it'll be fine" get it checked properly.)

I don't really fancy putting a lap belt on it. I'll have another look at access tomorrow. In the meantime thanks for your help and I'll keep an eye out for other posts to see if anybody else can help me.

Thanks for that Rab. I've got a spare one in the garage from my old Brava. Had to replace it cos the belt became frayed because of baby seat. I'll have a look at that one before I tinker with the one on the Marea.

Mission Impossible!!??

This morning mission should I decide to accept it (and not go to a scrappy to try and recover a working one) is to put this mess back together!

I'd taken them out in the process of srying the internal speaker mounts. I counted carefully the number of rotation already wound on, after I detatched the belt from it and let it unwind
BiG MiSTAKE!! I should have just wedged it there and not let it unwind at all, cos after I wound it on again and attached the belt again, it wouldn't work, so I got curious (even bigger mistake..........)BaDOINNNNNG!

If I were you, I'd run it by a fiat dealer before you have a Homer inspired moment to start fiddling :)

Re: Mission Impossible!!??

Don't even attempt to repair that, throw it in the bin and go get another one.

Re: Mission Impossible!!??

Fixed it.
Rab gave me the idea when he mentioned the locked barrel. I decided to tilt the seat forward then slam it back to the normal position. Hopefully this would unlock the barrel and release the seat belt. It worked.
Thanks to everybody for there help and nice one Rab.
