Technical Locked Car with no documents or keys

I've been given the opportunity of buying a 500 which is locked and has no documents or keys. Obviously getting it open isn't too much of a problem. I have bricks!!

The question is, how easy is it to get a remote key made up when you have no codes on a bit of paper. Would it be ECU and ignition barrel changing, what would you need to change?

If you can prove you own the car to the dealer they can probably just order the key based on the VIN.

Any Fiat Dealer will sell you originals with the VIN or Reg however you may be asked to prove that you are entitled to them.

As above, so basically get the car home, pay your £25 to the DVLA for a new V5, use that to prove ownership to Fiat, pay them the ~£200 for a new remote key and vroom vroom.

Yep, back when I worked in the trade cars would be taken regardless of if they could get the keys or books and the repo guys were very good at it.

We had several fiats which were trailered off the to dealership to have new keys made.

Thanks guys, yes it's a repo. Seized vehicle which was lifted due to a lot of unpaid parking fines. Good to know I can get a remote from the vin with a V5. Appreciate the help.

I take it then you're buying it from the finance company ? Not the parking fine company who have no legal claim on the car only the registered owner?

Do you have to get in to get the VIN?
You can find it out from Fiat or DVLA with the registration number.

Hopefully, you've bought a bargain.

Not got it yet, thinking about it. I'm sure I can get in without the use of a brick. If, as others say, I can get a key once I have the V5 then I won't need to get in until I have a key.

How did you even come across that kind of car? I know it can obviously be bought from repos and the like, but never found anyone who ever has!

With proof of ownership, you can order both a remote and a non-remote key through a fiat dealer; these will unlock the door manually but they will need physical access to the car to reprogram the body computer before you'll be able to start it.

If you're planning on selling the car on, my guess is you'll want both keys, so for budgeting purposes I'd allow:

£25 for getting the car's electronic code from the central database
£125 for a non-remote key
£225 for a remote key
£50 for key programming
and the cost of either a tow-in, or someone to come out with examiner & program it at your place.

I'd say you're looking at £600 minimum.

I dithered about and someone beat me to it. It came from someone I know who works at a Repo company in London who knows my love of 500s, so offered it to me for £2.5K.
