Anyone know what could cause this on my PC, all I did was remove one virus protection and replace with another?? then I could no longer connect.

The Router is fine, and so is the line.

Could it be a corrupted winsock?

No, was uninstalling Panda, which didnt uninstall completely, and installing Pc-Cillin.

Norton is EVIL! it doesnt like my computer

Unplug the power plug from your router for 30 secs and reconnect. Should do the trick. Also disable your anti virus upon boot up. When all is well, switch back on the anti virus.

PC-Cillin is **** too! Install Zonealarm and should be fine.

Whats up with Norton then Smee? I've used it for years without problems. Decent bit of software from my experience.

Admittedly, Rach (my better half) has managed to uninstall Norton on Win98 and it completely shafted the system. But that was on Win98 so it was hardly surprising.

There's nothing wrong with Nortin IMO, but can slow your system down is you have an slow pc.

Chris

its nots wats wrong with it it wats right...

it is basically a virus in its self. it re writes systems files and cant be fully removed. its slows ur system down. its out of date every 5 mins. honeslty and truthfully i has to be the worst anti virus software ever know to mankind. and to top it of they went a released other products that also re write system files so these cant be removed properly.

theres only 2 programs of norton ill put up with. norton ghost... and graham norton other than that i wouldnt entertain in.

AVG is by far the best i used so far. its about a month ahead of mcafea (sp)

lads is there anything to get rid of spyware i think my computer is riddled with it, infdact its so riddled its actually writing this post for me

This problems usually caused when your computer cannot renew/obtain it's IP address.....try repairing your network connection, Start,Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on the connection and click repair. Doubt this will work but its worth ago. Second option is to disconnect the power cable on your cable modem for a minute then reconnect, this usually solves the problem. Third and finally option would be to assign an IP manually. Start by running the command prompt, type ipconfig, it'll display your IP. Next go to network connections (Control Panel) and right click for the properties, once open go to TCP/IP and click properties enter the IP address thats displayed on your DOS screen, put the subnet mask to 255.255.240.0, next in your system tray you should have a little yellow triangle with an explanation mark on it (Your limited or no connectivity icon) click this and it should display more details, in there you'll find your default gateway and DNS IP's as provided by your ISP, enter these in the relevant bits on the TCP/IP properties.

Restart your PC and you'll find that the problem will be fixed. Leave Norton on, theres nowt wrong with it.

Get with the program guys ;)

NOD32 is the proven best anti-virus software. Only program to never miss an in the wild virus.

AVG is one of the worst!!

Even Symantec (Norton) prevent more virsues than AVG, there's a reason it's free!!

AVG missed something like 400 viruses in the virus bulletin tests last month lol.

Kaspersky is nesxt best after NOD32.

NOD32 uses little system resources too.

It's far from amazing, seriously.

http://www.virusbtn.com/index

These guys ^^ do independent tests on all anti-virus products using the newest virii. AVG missed 400 this month alone. NOD32 missed none.

Norton is crap, especially considering the cost, but at the moment it's better than AVG by far (but still crap).

You simply can't tell when you have many virii, it's impossible. Some do nothing, some do things behind the scenes.

Plus on AVG you have to manually update and looking at the site it only does so every 3 days. NOD32 is autimatically updated every 30 mins.

Trust me get NOD32. AVG is shocking compared.

And i wouldn't trust Microsoft for virus announcements. I did a test with Microsoft Anti-spyware and Ad-aware and Microsoft missed spyware threats every month that ad-aware caught.
