life in the old xbox(ish)

There's not much life left in my old Xbox! The off button doesn't work, it turns itself on when plugged in, the disc tray works pretty good but turns the console off when it closes... It's quite exciting! And, well, infuriating. Definitely don't want it to die completely before I've finished Psychonauts and Stranger's Wrath, amongst other things...

possibly but its not a big job to swap so worth a try.
could een remove the one you have and inspect the tracks/solder and make sure its fully plugged home.
is it a very early V1.0?
if its the drive then thats easy replaced
if its a mobo fault then live with it

Love xbmc, I modded my xbox about 2 years ago without a problem (Xecuter 3 ce, 160gig hd). One question i've never found the answer to is whether you can/its worth upgrading the ram?

well lucky im here then

you can add 64mb of RAM chips into the 2 spare points on the mobo

just like these(though this isnt an xbox mobo)
however its not really worth it
you need to source the correct chips either seperate or by desoldering from an xbox mobo
its very intricate soldering and the legs of the chips are easily damaged
only apps that support the 128mb ram will use it.
games etc will still run in 64 meg mode
its good for those that run emulators (with support) or linux xbox servers

I do run emulators but i've never had a problem running them, think i'll give it a miss lol.

MAME? Never heard of it, I've got about 20 emulators on it that came with AID3 half of which I'm not sure what they emulate lol.
