Hi there, having an issue with a warning on the dash, says 'LHS indictor warning' however all bulbs are flashing in time and I have replaced the front one and also changed over the other two on the left hand side for the ones on the right, expecting the warning to change to the RHS, this did not happen. The dash indictor flashes really quick as if a Bulb was not working , for about 20-40 seconds then works normally. Any help would be very appreciated. MOT on wednesday. Thanks.

Interesting problem/scenario

If when you indicate left / or right / or hazard all bulbs responed immediately then I don't think you can have and MOT fail. You may get an advisory. The MOT does not not currently cover information panel messages. These are separate from the real distinct warning lights on the dash.

Check the VOSA website for current MOT test details. Also beware garages looking for work thinking the customer is stupid and not aware of the MOT test factual details/requirements.

See
http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/c...nualsandguides/mottestingmanualsandguides.htm

and Inspection Manual for Classes 3, 4, 5 and 7 Vehicles and Section 1.4

Namely:

2. Operate the left and right direction indicators in
turn and check:
a. the driver’s ‘tell tale’ warning device for
presence and operation
b. that the minimum number of direction
indicators are securely fitted
Note: The precise position of direction
indicators is not part of the inspection, but
check visually that the lamps are at about the
same height and the same distance from each
side of the vehicle.
c. they are working
d. they are not obscured

IF YOUR LIGHTS FLASH AS REQUIRED AND THE DASH REPEATER LIGHT FLASHES AS REQUIRED (tell tale lamp) then your vehicle is compliant with the regualations and you should not be failed on your MOT.

Beyond this though the vehicles body computer is detecting/flahing up a message. What is causing this I don't know but I suspect if you slowly research the problem by applying the indicators in left only, right only, hazard modes WITH an ignition off and 60 second delay cycle between each test test then hopefully you will identify a LHS or RHS issue. I would then check all connectors and bulb terminal sockets/leafs for correct fit, free of oxidation and corrosion etc. etc.

s130, thanks for your reply, I aslo do not think this is a MOT failure, as externaly all lights are flashing in time. I'm begining to think that it may be an earthing issue, however how would this clear its self after 40 so seconds ?? The MOT is today so I will have yet another look to see anything obvious. The DASH repeater does flash at twice the normal speed for the 20-40 seconds but as I said all indicator lights are flashing as normal ?? will let you know how I get on.

When I was fitting the towbar to my Croma and had to remove the rear lights then when I had finnished I had the warning message. To remove the message I had to operate the lights (including indicator) for many many many seconds before the messages would disappear. Gues the system wants a steady state so as to ensute there is not a temporary/intermittent fault.

Hi, well the car passed, hooray !!! s130 interesting you say about the Tow bar, as I fitted mine as well but that was two years ago and I'm sure this has only been happening for about 6-8 months.. When the sun comes out a bit more I might investigate it a bit further... MOT all good only thing I noticed was the co level has jumped up a lot compared to last year...

Oh that bypass relay :) I did pull the fuse on that to see if it would make a difference. Will check wiring, maybe just disconnect it all and see what happens.

vdeki. sorry for delay. No i still have the same issue. And it's MOT time again booked in for this Saturday.
