try some other dealers, local garages, http://www.elcome.ltd.uk etc.

Sucks you don't have / need those parts. If it was done proper the circlip would have held the cup in. Now you in a messy fiddly job.

You need several specialist parts, and some gaiter clips as well. Luckily these are availble for 50p from any decent factors, and 10000X better than cable ties.

Good luck with it (y)

right, i got the circlip, but my local fiat dealer dont stock the O-ring and wont get it for me :( any ideas where i could source it?

The circlip is already spread aswell

the c cilp will be slightly spread just do as I said when inserting the shaft an all will be good

the o ring IS available from fiat it is the same part used in many gearboxes today
they should stock it any good dealer would if not they should get you it it will be next day as warington have them

it will only be pence there being lazy go back and talk to the boss of the garage about it

pointing out your a customer with a fiat in need of parts an they as a fiat dealer should provide you with them if he is on the same page as the parts manager was (not interested)

phone fiat customer services and complain they will give the dealer an absolute roasting for it as they are tainting fiats reputation

after talking to the boss you will likely get the part so keep at it don't take no for an answer

remember the part you want is definitely available next day

I couldn't be a$$ed with them in the end, the guy didnt even know what i was talking about, nevermind be able to get me the correct part. I took the parts down with me and he was just like

I've used another dealers now who are 1000x better. It might be 45min drive away but atleast theyre getting me the part and actually knew what i was talking about. Showed him the bits and he knew exactly what i needed (y)

I got the circlip on with a bit of swearing so hopefully it'll hold the shaft in place now :)

Its fitted :D

i did it on wednsday but didnt post anything incase i jinxed it  . Doesn't seem to be leaking *touch wood* but im gonna leave it a week and try top up the oil again to see if any has been lost.

I ended up just buying a new flange (it was only £15 anyway) as it came with the o-ring and PITA driveshaft seal already fitted :)

If it leaks this time, ima take it to fiat - i cba with all that again

Thanks so much for your help with this littlepip (y) the offer of beer still stands if we ever meet :)

part 7 (circlip) is missing pal.it should be fitted into the groove in the end of the driveshaft (part 8) BEFORE the driveshaft is inserted back into the gearbox

he knows that

he's done it and well done to him getting oil seals right is a challenge at the best of time

I should know I fit 2 dive shaft seals to mine a cam shaft seal a rocker cover seal and have used plenty of rtv and o gap sealer everywhere on mine

and then gave it a clean so far no leaks and the egine looks like new all over

Hi, We are in the process of fixing an oil leak at the diff seals on a 2000 Punto. We have found that there was a bit of play in the diff bearings with the original shim (item 15 in the diagram). The shim is available up to 3mm thick. The existing shim is 2.5 mm. As per info in an old Haynes manual on a Strada, the diff bearing should have a preload of 0.008". I suspect the bearings are worn ( car has 60k miles). I see that they are freely avialable on E-bay, meaning they seem to be needed a lot. The aim is to stop leak until summer when the bearings can be changed. Re the unavailable o-ring Item 2, I came across this type of snag in a Ford garage as I only wanted 2 of an item, but Ford only sell them in packets of 50. The Parts guy did not want to be left with skock they could not sell.

On another point, We fixed the intermittent electrical fault by replacing the Blaukpunt radio with a radio from Halfords. The Instruments no longer die when the radio is turned on.
