can anyone help please

have a major water leak and believe it is the core plug on the gear box side of the engine

have looked at a few web sites and they recommend replacing all core plugs as a set

can anyone please tell me

how many core plugs there are on a punto mk1 55 s
where they are located
do you need to take the engine out to replace them all
any good garages that would do the work and a rough cost

would appreciate any feedback, many thanks

Access is the issue. From memory there are 1 each end, one for each cylinder, back and front. So, 10 in all.

Here's the one that has gone. Generally they rot from the inside out because some twerp has not replaced the anti-freeze so it is wise to replace the lot. They're a couple of quid each.

It's an easy DIY job, but very labour intensive. You need a jack, a couple of axle stands, set of sockets, loan of an engine crane, unloved screwdriver and hammer.

As you'll have to remove the gearbox from the engine, wise to think of a new clutch at the same time.

Not the foggiest idea where you live, so can't recommend anywhere. Well within the talent of any DIYer or backstreet garage -- get a quote beforehand -- but as I say, labour is the biggest part, by a long, long, way.

core plugs as said usually rot from inside out as because antifreeze corrosion inhibiters have not been added
the problem is will your internal heater matrix be next on the list?
i dont envy your problem im afraid and wouldnt pressure test your system to confirm one leak in case i created more

i would sit down and assess the situation if i was you in case you end up spending in labour more than the cars worth

fingers99 and s and b
many thanks for the advice and comments much appreciated
should have said i live in hayes middlesex
from what you say not sure it would be worth paying a garage to do the work
she's an M reg and only used as a weekend runaround
unfortunately i dont have premises to do it myself
