Hi, I'm converting my car slowly to a 595 replica, I've upgraded the piston and cylinder to the 70mm upgrade. The car is currently running a Weber 28imb, is it possible to put a larger carb on the car? If so what carburettor would recommend. Thanks

In my opinion, the best carb that you can fit would be a "Dellorto 24/30 FZD". Sure, in Italy they are fitting BIG Weber and Dellorto 'twin-chokes', or motor-bike carbs (Kehin or Mikuni), but the problem in the UK is that very few people have the experience of putting these carbs on the 500/126 variants. The FZD Dellorto IS well known over here, is a simple carb (which has both a choke and an accelerator pump), is light enough that it doesn't need additional support, stays in tune, most of the parts are readily available still (if you know who to ask and where to go to) and all the jets can be changed whilst the carb is still bolted to the engine. They are quite expensive (as carbs go), but I think well worth it. I think that if you approach "Toshi", he has one of these carbs complete with its dedicated inlet manifold, for sale.

Hi Phil, I agree with Tom @ the hobbler re the Dellorto FZD But, if you need an alternative that is not that expensive look into the Weber 30 DGF. These are original fitment on the Panda 30 and 126 BIS IIRC. No need to adjust jets just bolt it on, it's a variable twin choke downdraught carb which gives good economy. The other carb that I have experience of is the Solex 32/35 PHH series, these twin choke side draught carbs are lightweight compared to the Weber DCOE series carbs and once you know what you are doing are straightforward to set up, parts/jets are available from Italy as they are original fitment on Lancia and Alfa cars.

Thanks both, do these carbs fit the 499cc engine.. I see a lot on the 600cc engine but I want to try and get the maximum out the 500 engine if possible.. it's already made a big difference increasing the cylinder and pistons..

Whilst the Weber 30DGF and the Solex PHH carbs are good alternatives to the FZD, I think that as they were originally fitted on larger engines (both the Panda30 and 1/2 of the 1300 Lancia V4) are 650 engines. they MIGHT be a bit overpowering for a '595'. I would personally still look for a FZD, but of course, the choice is yours.
