Been having a few problems with my screen on my laptop. One minute its fine then the next it starts to fade and crashes and goes white. Its only recently started doing this. Anyone else had a problem like this or know if it can be sorted??

Need a new light in your laptop. I had mine go about a months after the warranty ran out. Seems to be getting very common. Must be all the opening and shutting. Should cost under £100.

I don't think its the backlight tbh as the screen would just go to a dark version of your desktop and WOULD'NT crash the laptop itself.

Can't really diagnose it further without more info. Sounds like overheating / power issue, is the laptop excessivly hot when this happens?.

Nah it does it even when i've just started it up!

is the laptop still running (noise flashing lights) and just the screen has gone?

Or does the whole thing die?

Ye the laptop's still funning, everything i got on it still on the screen just goes.

I have to touch the back or move the screen to try and get it back

Sounds like a HP laptop I fixed not so long ago.

If the screen was going black, its the connection inside the lower part of the laptop, or the backlight. Because its going white, there is a connection from the mainboard. Its the screen end. I had to reseat the cable to the screen inside the lid of the laptop and re-secure it with gorilla tape. The original orange stuff is useless. I also secured the cable along the back of the screen with more gorilla tape. Most of the time the connector inside the base of the laptop is screwed down. The one in the lid is taped.

I'm nowhere near essex but if you don't feel confident stripping it down, pay the postage here and back to you and i'll do it FOC.

Yeah its sumin to do with the connection..I got a mate coming down to look at it for me at the weekend hopefully he can fix it for me. Thanks anyway.

You simply need a new cable or a new screen as if the screen data cable if faulty then you are likely to get those effects. Try a new screen first from suppliers like "Laptop Screen Online" and then if not successful then try ordering a new cable from eBay.

This is from March 2008...
