i have microsoft antivirus, which is free, and touch wood, it has never let me down. i also have that pc doctor thing, registry doctor or something that does scans and that.
i have reinstalled windows before, and before i crashed it, i put all files i wanted to keep on usb or cd. when i had reinstalled windows, i downloaded mcafee trial, and it lets you scan cds or usbs before you open them on ur pc (y)

Yes Microsoft Security Essentials. Free for home non-comercial use. Its by far the best "free" antivirus at the moment IMO :).

As long as it has "on access" scan functionality theres no need to scan your whole USB HDD or USB Stick etc.

what did you mean 'free' in speech marks (their proper name has just left my head and i cant think of it at all lol)? lol
did u mean u can only scan certain files on the usb with that 'on access'? thats what i meant, that u can induvidually scan each file :)
