Sorry if this has been asked before!

I'm trying to get a laptop hard drive (with a usb converter) working with blue and me. However, i just get no media found when I connect it to car. Anyone used/uses one? Its formatted to FAT32 at the moment.

Cheers

Probally best posting in the new blue&me section.
I read that someone tried this and they said the usb port didnt output enough power to power the laptop harddrive.

You can buy very small/low power usb drives that do work and dont need as much power.

the prob is the that it's not compatible!!!if you read the manual it says ONLY up to 1 Gb and only Sundisk and one other brand...i have an 8 Gb one and it just reads about 512mb...

Not the case, i have a PNY 4gb stick that works fine. Also, people use Ipods that are large capacity.

As for the lack of power, that was the conclusion i came up with as the drive doesnt spool up.

Might try it with a cigarette lighter usb adpter, see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the replies.

I have ready that upto 4GB is ok, above that there is not enough power. Ipods have their own power supply

A 2,5" laptop harddrive draws too much power, more than a USB interface can deliver. So indeed the only option is to use a supporting power source like from the cigarette lighter. Actually I've got a 20GB 1,8" drive working without supporting power.

powered only from USB?

I don't think the blue and me USB port delivers the same amps as a computer USB. I can power my external drive from usb only, but won't run from the car's USB.

mean's I'll need to dig deep and buy...
