hi all :wave: been after a latop for a while, nothing spectacular just for web browsing etc.

well i've been offered a latop off a mate, its a compaq. 1.79GHz AMD with 576MB ram and a 20 gig hard drive, 15" screen for around £100 in good condition with charger, does it sound a decent price?

Sounds fair. Careful plugging the charger in and out, the power plug on the mobo can become damaged. What model is it? Worthwhile checking the ability of the battery to hold charge too.

You will also find with that hard drive size that the graphics will lag on the computer unless it is plugged into the mains.
However for the price I would deffo buy it (even if you don't like it, you could easily get ur money back off ebay )

thanks for the replies, im on it now and its amazing!! wireless too and its 1.89ghz and looks stunning bought for £95

If you need to, just buy a larger 2.5" drive.

a 2.5" drive? it has a floppy drive and dvd rw etc. just having 1 prob, put in my usb wireless adaptor thing for the net and it connects to my network but the net wont come on any ideas? just installed the driver for it and tried to connect, thanks

2.5" internal HDD - you only have 20Gb currently.

grrrrrr it wont connect to the net :bang: it was fine on his network with the lan cable, now i put the usb adaptor in and installed drivers etc it connects to my network but wont connect to the net

ok when i try and open a web page it says: connecting to site 1.0.0.0 any ideas? thanks

Is your main computer set so it allows wireless networking?

There is an option in control panel IIRC

If connecting to 1.0.0.0., then it may be due to a new driver being installed for your NIC or Local area connection. Look under properties and you will see the driver, MS IPV6, and uninstall it. Think it is a TCP/IP issue.

im on it now its much much faster than my pc (1.3ghz) only thing is the internet exorer is different on this and its annoying me lol but thanks again!!

Download firefox from www.mozilla.com, Its a load better then IE.

What version is it running? Help > About Internet Explorer What version are you used to?

oops sorry to add, it was running IE7, i just un installed and i'm using IE 6 now which im used too

NOW, ii'm going to get a spare battery or extra power and incase this one fails, cheapest on ebay comes to £27.20 which i think is quite good, do any of you know of any other places i could try? thanks
