Hey!

I thought this would be the best place to share my problem, and hopefully get some good advice or even a solution.

Anyway here goes,

I have a 2001 3dr 1.2 standard punto, its been running absolutely fine for the 2 years I have owned it, and there havnt been any problems with previous owners.

The problem started when I was running low on petrol, (or so I thought) and I was about 2 miles from home, although I easily had 15 miles of well driven petrol left, so I thought get it home, run to the petrol station in the morning because it was shut at the time, and fill up a jerry can, and im sorted.

However, when I started it in the morning I had the same lack of power as the night before, and when idle/neutral or whatever the car was going nuts and rapidly shaking, and I noticed the engine light was on on the dash.

I'm really not sure what it is, maybe its only running on 3 out of 4 cylinders, in which case I could fix possibly.

I have very little money too, student you see :p

So any help is appreciated, thanks for reading!

sound like a coil has failed so it is running on 2 cylinders, if it is you should be able to get a second hand one (coil pack) on ebaY for not much money.

Why buy another coil (with no guarantee of it's quality) when you can swap the two you have over and see if the fault jumps to the other two cylinders? ;)

Highly likely to be the common EFI ECU issue (failed coil driver).

Search for the diagnostic procedure guide that's on here if you're savvy with basic car electronics.

Here it is- https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-guides/52068-punto-coil-ecu-checks.html
