Kwik-Fit <<<< I dont think so!!!!

I took my Brava to kwik fit last night as i noticed the exhust was hanging off (not literally just looked like a bracket lose or something!!) Anyhow, after being totally ignored for 20 mins i asked one of the guys if someone could have a look at my exhust. Some other guy came out.. took one look at my car just parked in the parking space and said 'we cant do that cos its a sports exhust you need to go to a specialist'. I couldnt believe that they didnt even have a proper look at it for me, i smiled sweetly at them too (lol)!!
Well i went home in disbelief and thought id get under the car myself, turns out all that has happened is the rubber bracket has broken....2 mins it took me to suss that, why didnt the guys and kwik fit just have a look??!!! Im assuming i can pick up a bracket from Halfords or some other accessory shop???

yeah you can get a hanger for a quid or so down a local motor factors

You can, you'll probably find the genuine Fiat rubber bodgy is only a few quid though and might be a better fit than a universal part.

Kwik-fit astonished a group of us before. Went drag racing, one girl got a flat tyre and wasn't allowed to race on it. Somebody sold her a new tyre, Kwik Fit actually said to her "We don't fit tyres" when she turned up with a fistful of cash and asked them to fit it for her.

They tried to stop my brother taking his wife's car away once too, said the brakes were 'dangerously worn' - when they weren't even down to the minimum recommended thickness.

They tried to make me fit a full new exhaust system to a car once, when all it needed was a rear box. I had to tell them how to cut and sleeve an aftermarket rear silencer onto a one piece OEM exhaust - saved me £120 that little spat.

I guess every branch is different though.

Why did you not look first to see if it was an easy job before taking it to someone whose prime objective is to get your wallet empty as quickly as possible?

I use someone else as a last resort, i.e. after I've made sure it is out of my field of excellence. (Admittedly, more of a small lawn than a field! )

Fair point Mark but being a normal worrying woman felt it was easiar to take it to kwik-fit. I really dont have time to fiddle around with exhusts and stuff and plus what would my neighbours think!!!lol.

Sounds to me like that branch wanted to knock off early.

And I have no doubt that they were probably more flippant than usual because you're a lady. A sad indictment on the world we live in.

I have a similar experience as well, my car broke down literally in front of a Kwik-Fit garage but when I approached them, they told me that they don't do recovery and asked me to call AA!

have mixed feelings on kwik fit, they riped me off when i was 17 as i needed something doing to me brakes on the back and they "replaced" stuff which didn't need doing!! but when me dad broke down 4-5 blokes came up the road about 1/2 mile form the garage and pushed his car into the garage and they gave him a great job and a fair price!!

its just where you take your car some are good some are bad?

Not every firm are bad. My neck of the woods there is an exhaust/tyre place as well as brakes and clutches. Motosave is the name, Any way, wanted a rubber exhaust hanger for my sons Vectra. They GAVE me one.

if you are really pissed with the garage you could go and complain to the manager? never know he may do something about it? but then again it could have been the manager you were speaking to!!

every now and then you come across a good garage, all i can say is keep there number!!

just had the 1.2 brava mot'd and i had front suspension changed, lower suspension arms & anti roll bar bushes £100 labour that was both sides. i gave himn a tenner for a drink and i have already used him again twice for two different cars.

At my local Quik-Fit there's a guy who does car repair, exhuats, brakes, servicing and tyre fitting, on his days off for cash!
He uses all the QuikFit equipment and premesis, and they're still open to customers as usual! Well cheeky, but cheap for tyre fitting etc once I've got hold of them from mytryes!

Well who needs kwik-fit.....£1.20 rubber bracket from Halfords, the guy even had a look at the exhaust to see what fitting would be best. Bugger kwik-fit!!!!

Kwik-Fit run on menu pricing and will only fit parts that they supply I'm afraid. The original post does sound like you found a bunch of Job'sworths but they tend to be that way now.

I have had similar problems in that they wont fit an after-market exhaust unless it's supplied by them and the same goes for tyres.

They are all there to scam money out of you! I went to get my 2 front tyres replaced I saw some on their website that would were compatable with the others for about 40 ish - 50 quid . When I went in they told me that they dont excist and that the only ones they have are £90 a corner ! WDF! They said that I could wait and they would go and get some of the cheaper ones from another branch in the end. I then took up their £100 full service offer as it was the cheapest at the time, got the car back the mechanic tells me there are serious problems with the car and if I took out a kwik fit card he would knock 10% off the £560 bill it would cost to make the car road worthy ! Again WDF! It needed 2 new back tyres as he said they were over 10 yrs old ,the car is 5 yrs old btw! new shock absorbers ( got one changed 5 months before ) new windscreen wipers and not to mention new brake pads and drums .. I told him that that cant be right and that I wouldnt get it done over the phone when I went to pick up the car he said that the car is ok its just those parts of the car fell bellow the kwik fit 'minimum requirement' but would pass an MOT . On a positive note they were very friendly and seemed impressed that I owned the car as I am a bird ( as quoted ) . lol Dont be fooled into getting anything fixed u all seem pretty clued up anyway.

to be honest it depends on the branch and also the muppets in there more than anything.

you tend to find that the bigger branches wont do anything for you, but smaller ones i find are more helpful. i went to my local one a few weeks ago to get my tyres fitted (17's) and the manager said they wouldnt do it! went bk a week later on sunday, half hour before close and got one of the fitters to do it for a fiver no manager in sight
