as title really when i go over bumps or speed bumps in the road ther is a knocking coming from my passengers side front end, when driving on flat roads it is fine... can anyone point me in the right direction?

Kris

Sounds like suspension mate. If it's that you'll have to replace the front set as a pair. Not actually that expensive (parts wise anyway - not sure about the labour)

what part of the suspension? all of it or just a certain bit? what bits of the suspension do i need to replace?

Kris could be the shock thats gone or it could be worn bushes.....

Done a couple of suspension swaps with ShaunCo there quite easy when you have the tools..... where you based pal....

Oh and dont pee on hot coals it smells.....so i have heard!

Try pushing down the corner you think is knocking and see if you can still hear it. Also jack the car up, hold the wheel at either side and see if there is much play in the wheel. If there is, this could indicate a worn bush. Mine turned out to just be the exhaust knocking on the rear bumper over certain bumps!

i will have a check in a bit, based in hartlepool mate, im guessing its miles away from you? lol

Im in Preston, Lancs..... as Beeson said jack car up take hold of wheel at 12 and 6 like the clock pull and push vise versa and see if there is any play.... could be bearing if there is. Also to check shock is ok if there the original ones they be oil filled squeez you have through the spring to the shock if its oily then its burst and is leaking oil when you go over bumps you'll probably hear a squeek from that side to...

knocking

Hi Beeson,

It sounds more like your BALL JOINT, which will mean a wishbone change. Easy to do if you can get car up on a hydrolic lift (like i can) and will only take you 30-45 mins per side., and yes you are advised to change as a pair !

Not likely to be a shock, unless you can see oil leakeage from the shock.

I had same problem not so long ago (2weeks) changed shocks n springs, still knocked, so new wishbones.

Ebay patent (cost pending quality) or if you can afford, and want to keep the car for a while then OEM

if your bushes are knackered they will look a little like this! also as already said, look on the shock for oil if you have any its probally best to change your shoks

Marea, why settle for less?

bonnet seems to be normal bouncy and cant see no oil coming from the shocks so i rekon im gna get the wishbones changed and the droplinks at the same time because they probably havent been done since car was new, got the car in august 2007, 87,000 miles on the clock and the cam belt hadnt been changed so got that done straight away, how much am i looking at for the 2 wishbones? i know the droplinks aren't that much bout 8 quid or summit, unfourtunately aint got a hydraulic lift so pretty screwed for doing it myself
