Hi Folks,

Apologies again if asking an obvious question. I have noticed a low knocking noise coming from the engine. This appears when the engine is warming up and seems to dissappear after 15 miles or so. Also it can only be heard when the accelerator pedal is depressed and is heard from inside the car (if sat behind the steering wheel). As this is a fairly old car (10 years) I am wandering if this is something I should be worried about..

Thanks for any advice..

Need more info - from where under the bonnet. The way you described it, it can be 100th of things.

Hi,

It can really only be heard from inside the car to the right of the steering column and down. It is more of a continuos "clicking" noise but only when the accelarator pedal is depressed. It is more audible in lower gears 1st and 2nd. The car didnt have any papers when bought so no indication of cambelt change etc

If you cant hear it from the outside, are you sure you ain't hearing some relay clicking ?
Soft click that comes in regular intervals.

Thanks for advice all.Havent tried pushing in clutch to see if noise dissappears, but will do so.

If it is the clutch release bearing how much ball park would I be looking at for replacing?

Thanks

Tom,

Yes if the clutch is pushed in the noise goes away..also if the car is in neutral there is no noise either..basically the noise can only be heard if the car is in gear and the accelarator pedal is depressed..
