Knocking...?

Just a quick question - I've had my bravo about 2 weeks now, and I've noticed, that when I turn the ignition on I hear a knocking sound - like someone tapping on a wooden door over and over again, when I turn the engine over, the engine starts and you can still hear the knocking in the background. It definately can't be engine because it does this when just the ignition is on (and engine off), so I'm rather confused.. Anyone help me out?

Could this also be why I'm getting 40mpg? I know 1.4's are bad at fuel economy, but I'm getting around 40ish, hoped to get more to be honest. It's got 60,854 miles. Last Service/Cambelt was at 60,793 miles. (was getting less mpg before this)

There is probably nothing wrong with it. Maybe something has come lose and is banging against something else.

They are not cheap to replace though. Unless its really pissing you off I'd be tempted to leave it until it stops entirely.

Diesel? errrrrr. no.. I had a 1.9D Golf before this Bravo and tbh I hated it.. I don't think I'd ever buy a Diesel again.

i didn't get that out of my 1.1 uno!!! (mostly as i was constantly thrashing it. lol)

I get about 35mpg out of my 1.6 (averaged over about 300 miles) but have had it down to about 13mpg on one trip (averaged over 40 miles) when i was late one day!

I would not moan at 40 at all!

40..hmm. lol. Maybe because I was used to 55+ out of my 1.2 75Sx Punto. Nevermind, anyone any news on the original post of the topic? the knocking I have, anyone can confirm it is the fuel pump and how much to fix it?
