hey all...
its been a fair while since i had anything to say here.but new problems keep arising and this one has me stumped.
i recently adjusted my distributor timing on my uno cento (999) coz i had a bit of ping,or tapet bounce if u will.now there's a distinct knocking sound comin from the distributor area...i can feel it in the cap if i touch it.it seems to be relative to the revs, but i cant hear it at high revs.

i have searched the forum for hours but cant find anything to explain it.
any ideas guys?...would be much appreciated

carl

can nobody needs me any advice as to what this knocking could be???
i did the screwdriver to ear test and the noise is loudest on the vacuum advance module.

PLEASE can someone send sum knowledge my way.im pretty concerned about it.
shot for lookin anyway guys;-)

Hi,
It could be the centrifugal advance inside the distributor. Maybe a weak spring that holds them closed? I would strip the distributor and check inside. I found on mine that the vacuum advance diaphram was holled and also the weights were flopping around in the body of the distributor. After repairing and replacing a few bits all was well again.

Check if bearings inside distributor arent worn. There was same problem on my friend's uno. It started loosing power and backfiring. Problem was in excessive play in bearing that holds a plate with sensor and where vacuum advance connects to

awesome...

thanks for the suggestions guys.il operate this weekend...provided that the weather permits...its damp n dreary here...
i also noticed the contacts inside the cap are worn,so im gona see if i can scope out a new one soon.
cheers for now...(y):slayer:

Dont buy a new distributor from Midas! I went through two of these so called 'bargins'. Both left me stranded on the side of the road when they packed up after a week or two! I eventually found that Fiat sell the individual parts for the distributors, (after initially having been told they didn't). I bought the original parts and rebuilt mine. Since then I've not had problems.

shot unomia

ya,i tend to try stay away from midas parts if possible.therE'S a little establishment in east london called uno city, but their open hrs are the same as my workin hours.which sucks, but regardless, that's where i like to get my parts.aint dealt with them much tho,so i dunno how efficient or reliable they are.

its friday!!!:slayer:

Yeah, I know Uno City in East London, as I used to live there before moving to Cape Town. I heard different stories about them though, some good, some not so great.... As I do all my own work on the Uno I never used them myself. It certainly pays to shop around a bit for parts, as I found out with my distributor... If I'd bought original bits in the first place it would have saved me a lot of headaches.
