Tom, or anyone else, can U please tell me what does a "knocking sensor" do on a 1.4 engine.
Is it related whit the fuel consumption, or ?

Thanks

sven

pinking = a rattling noise on acceleration with low revs

So if Im correct, it adjusts the time when the plugs should "fire".

No, pinking and rattling are different :) Rattling at low revs under acceleration is usually worn bearings. Pinking most often happens at low throttle when the engine runs most lean.

Call me stupid, but I dont get it :)
Newer mind, so it can influance the mpg of the car, or does it just smooth down the engine work ?

Sven

If something is very wrong with the engine or the sensor the timing will be way out and the engine will loose power and MPG. But you do normally get a noticable loss of power.

i heard a rattling noise coming from mine the other day i had accelerated hard lifted off and as i lifted off i heard a rattle/clattering noise as the engine wound down. could it be my knock sensor is tits?
