Knocking front end

I had my HGT's cam belt done last week, got the car back on wednesday then yesturday I noticed there was a knocking coming from the front end. The speed of the knocking is in proportion to the road speed and is intermittant. The guy who changed the cam belt had a listen and suspected the driver side CV joint on the drive shaft, but the guys at work said that this would only make a sound on tight lock, but the knocking is when i'm driving in a straight line? What do you guys recon???

My Brava had a knocking noise from the front left corner - turned out to be a wheel bearing. Knocking was in a straight line, and on right handers, but stopped on left handers (cos it took the weight off that side). And yes, it was intermittent and proportional to speed. I'm just guessing as the symptoms are similar, but you might wanna check it out.

How much was that? Are they pricey little buggers?

I'd only had the car a couple of weeks, and it was done by the dealer under warranty - however, the mechanic said he only had to "adjust and tighten up" the bearing, it wasn't replaced. I don't know how much it would cost to get it done.
