Knee surgery?

Knee surgery?

Sounds like you'll only be off work a day or two. You'll probably have to rest the knee/ keep loads off it for about a week (my estimation), other than that it's a very light surgical porcedure.

Knee arthroscopies are performed as a day case procedure, unless there are any medical indications to require overnight admission.

yup I've had it done.

TWICE!!! cos they ballzed it up and made it worse (moved the fractered bits of cartledge out of the inside of the joint and left it actually in the jelly bit between the major bones/joints).

hurt like hell after the first one, the NHS said nothing was wrong and I was just complaining about nothing.
got 2nd one done (few MONTHS LATER!!! :bang: ) and has been spot on ever since

but yeah, if it DOES go right first time (likely) then expect 2-7days of swelling and hobbling about.
then you'll be able to walk on it alright, but still holding onto the banister on stairs (as it will hurt to put pressure on it when its anything but straight, any weird angles the ligaments felt weak)
and like me if your ride/mountainbike it'll be about 6-8weeks before you'll be able to do that again, same with running, or rowing, or climbing etc

you'll also be given excersices pressed up against a wall just stretching and flexing it. for GODS SAKE do them, otherwise it'll take forever to strengthen up and you'll end up with odd sized legs, not to mention a wobbly kneecap (n)

yeah sorry, 2days, norm your op is in the morning of first day, you come round lunch time, you lay around till feeding time, go to bed, try and hobble to the toilet (damn hard the first time as knee is weak and very erm wet and soggy :p )

then the next day you'll get a physicition making you use crutchs. then they'll send you out (y)

and the swelling gets worse before it gets better

Mrs R had some years ago. She went in to get a torn cartilage repaired and had it done with a keyhole system. When they got in there they found some loose bits floating around so they took them out as well. It all went fine, left no scars and she was back at work in a couple of weeks.

Did my outer miniscus 20 odd years ago. They did open surgery on it back then. Was in hospital for a week before they did the op. When I woke up, well ever burnt yourself for a few seconds ?, well it felt like that in my knee for ages before they gave me meds (n) .

Was in hossy for about a week or so, went home, removed the bandage, ( I had been told that the stitches where the ones that dissolve over time )when I removed the bandage there was a little bit sticking out, grabbed tweezers and pulled out 2 inches !!.

Went to physio to build up the knee but it was never the same ( as faster4 says do the exercises ). Then got tackled playing footy, went back and had an arthroscopy, in and out in the same day and they said nothing was wrong.

I now have a right knee which I can run on, kick a ball with etc etc, but cannot withstand twisting.

On a serious note though it will be fine, just do what the physio says and don't be afraid to raise any issue's regarding pain etc.

PS - Taking a bath will be fun !!.

The other half has had her knee operated on to shave the cartilidge (sp) and guess what.....they messed that up, shes been fed a lot of nonsense too but hopefully it should be fixed by the end of the year (one option is a plastic knee as someone mentioned above)
