key won't turn!

Hi,

I've had a look on some other threads about keys not turning when the wheels arn't straight but this doesn't apply to me.

I have parked my (new less than a week old) car dead straight several times and when i get in the car and try to turn the key it won't move.

I try to take the key out, move it around, lock and unlock the car but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Then just before I give up (about 5 mins) it suddenly works. This has happened several times.

Could this be a key issue or something really simple I have overlooked ?

It's possible you've put the steering lock on, when turning the key try turning the steering wheel side to side as you're turning the key, any better?

Also what car is it?

Thanks, I will try that next time. It's weird, its not every time I try and start up, just every now and again.

I bought the Punto Twinair, very impressed so far (despite the wierd ignition issue). It's coming up for a week old

P.s How have i put the steering lock on? Just because I've moved the steering wheel with the keys out?

Yeah, when you remove the key and turn the steering wheel it will lock the wheel.

I had this problem and the car is 500 twinair auto. Not sure the wheel was locked. It took 5 minutes before it steering wheel come to live
