Hello , I have a 2014 Fiat 500L , my battery recently died and I replaced it and now my ket will not turn and my steering wheel is actually able to move in all directions , it doesn't seem to lock like when the car is off. I tried making sure gear is in Park and removed the shifter cover to put it in neutral but same results, key goes in unable to turn.

May not be relevant but had similar recently on a Fiat Doblo due to a damaged steering lock.
Is it possible to remove the cover around the lock?
If so on mine at the opposite end to the key is the ignition switch part, if you can access it and unbolt it from the end of the steering lock, then with the correct key in ignition see if you can turn the ignition switch part using a screwdriver to see if vehicle will start.
Note be very careful doing this not to damage the ignition switch!
If engine starts and runs normal then you probably need a new steering lock complete.
On the Fiat Doblo cheap pattern ones are available , they come with two ignition keys, but you need the immobiliser chip from old key or it will not start, which is why I said leave key in lock when testing.
Note if you try to do this your self be very careful and disconnect the battery before trying change steering lock in case of AIRBAG DISCHARGE!!!
If uncertain get garage to do it.

The cover over the steering column to access ignition lock.
Note disconnecting the battery is for when you change the steering lock as it may involve removing the steering wheel and airbag.
To test the ignition side battery leave as normal.
If you have to do the steering lock there is probably a guide on uTube:)
