Technical Key Issue

I had to replace car key for my Multipla. I think I am the sole owner of a Multipla in my city. I imported this car from Italy about 6 years ago. I got this spare key from a dealer of Fiat in Poland who advised to contact my Fiat workshop and request them to sync the new key. But when I took the car, the new key and security code to them they were unable to sync the key. I have only one working key now and am afraid I will be stuck one day if it stops working. I would greatly appreciate if some one could tell me how to sync my new keys withe car. I have the security code and one old working key plus one new key with me.

did you quote your chassis number when you ordered your key,as the key is unique to your chassis number.
