And when you see K&N on the side of a high $$ racing car its unlikely the filter came from the K&N catalogue

What makes are the best then, i know Nige does BMC filters. and I've heard people on hear saying your usually better off with a flat panel filter than an open cone styled one.
Would I be better off with a Pipercross or similar make flat panel?

A direct replacement filter is better than a poorly fitted or positioned open cone filter. On the induction side the CDA is the only one that has really worked for us in tests, which is why we use and supply them. K&N 57i didnt work even a 1/10 as well.

Do you think there will be a noticeable difference in power from my current bravo 1.4, to a 1.2 with a remap and CDA. I'm thinking of getting a 1.2 instead and getting the full package off you in the summer, just wondered if it would be worth the cash.

In the tests we ran the CDA gained an extra 4-7% depending n the engine.
For example the HDi engine produced 74.4bhp at the wheel without and 78.8bhp with the CDA fitted with an increase in torque too (although I can't remember the figures!)
I would expect a less increase on a normally aspirated small petrol engine such as the 1.2 though. If you take the 83bhp and knock off 18% transmission loss to the wheels (68.1) and add the minimum of 4% (70.8) that is 2bhp at the wheels. OK its only 2bhp, however it does help the remap work better as we can increase the fueling slightly too, so you should see a combined increas of 10-11bhp rather than 8-9bhp. Is it worth it, well it depends! If you are insistant on having an induction kit, why spend money on one that doesnt work when you could spend money (albeit a bit more) on one that does.
It will gain you more power than a back box at probably less than the cost too.
I have one on my Alfa and have installed many of them with remaps and they do work very well together, with all happy customers.
