you shouldnt be so worried about the HG on the 899's.

sticky should cover model differences, and deal with red key i think.

look out for rust, shouldnt be any. they're galvanised. rust means bodged repair.

only the outer pannels are galvanised common rust places on a cinq now are in side boot at rear corners of the inner wing:)

and check that the drivers side wiper doesn't flap, as rust is common here as well. it eats through from the underneath, and the wiper jumps round like a kangaroo. We solved it by using a wide washer instead of the pooey plastic one fiat used.

check the seats don't clunk when you corner, as that seams quite common as well. And check the rear bumper mounts, they rust clean off, if it's a 94-96 model, factor in replacing them. if they cover you with rust when you poke them, use it as a haggling point!!!

Rust around the rear arches and in the boot at the point the cross-brace meets the shell (nearest the corners of the car) is likely to be an issue (YDM had a few holes there).

899cc's will probably blow HG's if allowed to go over 100 deg C, but 90 in traffic isnt anything to worry about...Oh, It'll need thrashing to get ANYWHERE!

body work is the main thing i look out for you bet

bet you already knew that though

Went to look at it today and was quite pleased :) It's a little red one, needs a new passenger wing mirror (looks an easy job?) and tax is nearly out and a few tiny lumps and dents and needs a good clean inside and t-cut outside. But underneath it's fine, engine runs spot on even after standing for a bit and no rust in the places suggested above. The lad has lost the logbook though so as I don't need the car right now I have put down a deposit on it and will pay the rest when he's got a new logbook :)

Dont worry bout cambelt changes, the 899cc is chain driven (y)

EDIT-DOH!! Why didnt i read Helz's post more thoroughly

helz if you need a mirror let me know i think i have a set of yellow cinq mirrors in the garage that are going to waste

if you want the passanger one or the pair let me know i have to put the drivers one back together :p

they are very easy to change , on the sei it was 3 screws that needed un-doing - these are clearly visible , on the cinq there may even only be 2

then you pull them apart and wiggle the adjuster through the hole , best to do this with window open so you can have easy access to both sides

you need some stickers, i forgot to give you them last night :(

I can't believe I forgot to get them Gaz :( I just didn't think we were going to be running of quite so soon. Will let you know about the mirrors - would rather get some black or red but I know where to find you, thank you :D I was also surprised that I didn't need to push it that hard to make it move, even with two poeple in it.

3 screws for a cinq mirror (y)

Just be careful not to damage the weatherstrips when removing the mirrors (they're easily broken)
