Well ecunotemu seems you are right again you must have helped a few people thanks for what you do ??

They just trick the ecu etc into boosting fuel, even the mpg computer thinks you've improved mpg, but like I said, test before and after and you'll find no improvement, where as remap takes into all engine parameters air flow, fuel, temp, speed etc, and is tuned to your van and age and condition,

Well i'm quite sure your right, but all this experimenting helps forum members come to a decision! Now its a matter of finding a good remapper that doesnt ask an arm and a leg for doing good work where you live

Fully agree with what you say mate,
My advice isn't just plucked from reading stuff, it's trying these products on 3 different vans that cover 100,000 miles a year since 2009. And also working alongside lots of other couriers who have tried different products and remaps.
Hence why I share my advice,

In this case I did leave an open mind as its the first product of this type that uses obd

Cheers for sharing your findings mate

Neil

Try to google Quantum remaps and see if they are close to you, they did my 2009 2.3 and I think it has made a big difference to the performance and mpg

I followed this thread with interest as I could not see how a generic module plugged into the OBD port could change the performance of an engine. The ODB port gives access to the databuses but it can't change data that is on the bus. I can only think that it is changing the fuel trims or similar configuration data. This is little different to the boxes that put a resistor in series with the temperature sensor. It is NOT a re-map. You can do the same with any decent OBD software tool. At best this sort of thing is a bodge, at worst a con. Oh, and un-plugging it probably won't undo any changes it's made.

Well, if it has made any permanent changes maybe the remapper will see it next week, i'm so pleased I joined this forum its a far cry from my expertise (dental technology) maybe I should start a thread on dentures:D
Will keep you all updated after the work has been done, it will take around 2 hours to do apparently

Well m8, there was a definite improvement, however I had a niggling doubt so I have sent it back for a refund since I found this local guy:
http://www.performcar.be/
He says chips just up the fuel injection pressure:mad:
Full remap 5 years guarantee etc €275

The old chips that plug in under the bonnet fool the ecu into increasing the injection pressure. This one isn't as primitive as that assuming it actually works. Not sure how the race chip one works I can find no technical info about it at all on the usual forums. If it was specifically programmed there would be the potential to rewrite maps and all sort of things but that obviously not the case.

Can I get a quote for teeth whitening!? ;)

Yes you can, but I only do the real deal for €200 which will give you numerous applications plus custom made splints to hold the bleaching gel, so if ever your near mons with a couple of hours to spend:D

Since I removed the chip the engine has returned to its normal lumpy self, slow throttle response by comparison, so I don't think any permanenet change has been made

Interesting, I wonder what it was doing. The only other possibility I can think of is that it issending a flood of "corrected" readings onto the bus which overwhelms the correct readings.
that of course assumes the engine ECU takes a relevent reading from another unit.

Just joined Robert. Thought CQ you. I bought recently a Motorhome with only 3,700 on the clock (a 2010). Its a Fiat Ducato Multijet 100. Runs well and I put a Solar panel on it after 2 new batteries were needed. Anyway I found the EM light was coming on. My m/c tells me its EGR...PO401..valve intermittent.
I have no info on where it is but I think its under the rear of the top engine panel. I undid the 2 screws but could not move it.
Any info (pdf or pics too) would be appreciated. Thanks all. Terry

Not 100% sure if this is your engine (as I've never seen up close the 2.2 ford puma 100bhp lump) but if yours looks the same then here's where it is and what it should look like ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1427071105.819147.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1427071116.599210.jpg

Hi Terry,
Don't know much about the Ducato, I'm a Croma owner. I did do a guide to to changing the EGR on the 1.0 16V mJTD https://www.fiatforum.com/miscellan...v-mjtd-egr-valve-restrictor-installation.html
But don't think it will help.

Hi,
Thanks for the link. I can understand how the "inline" tuning boxes work. The basic ones just just put a resistor in series or parallel with the sensor to offset the reading. More sophisticated units alter the response over the range. These sensors connect directly to the engine ECU, not via the CAN bus. The readings are transmitted on the bus, but as far as I know the ECU will not read MAF (or similar) data off the bus.

Remap done, all good for the moment from 128 to 160 bhp. Torque increase starting at 2000 revs to avoid frying the clutch, turbo fractionally boosted. Around 25% increase overall, lovely smooth motor, goes like stink if you floor it in third and fourth gear, then quietly up into fifth which seems much higher than before, just an impression I guess!
He says I need to drive around 100k's to settle it in.
I can return anytime for further adjustments gratis, he lives 4kms from me, been doing this for 6 years having done hundreds of cars

I invite your comments!
