But the first 200 Launch models are £15,070 I believe.

£13,600 and you still have to pay extra for the stripes and coloured mirrors, 17" alloys and unless you go for Bossa Nova white, any other colour option will then take it over £14k mark.

I know, I was just making a point that the A500 wasn't £15k, which it isn't

One question, does the Abarth come with the Titanic turning circle of the 1.4, thatll be the one thing I shant miss when mine goes:)

No, the abarth comes with a turbo and a handbrake. ;)

I have asked this question several times, but Mssporty has declined to answer.

Wonder if it's just on the Abarths or if they would be willing to put a good amount towards a fiat/alfa? If they gave me 14k for the Bravo I'd have a 159 or a brand new Croma 2.4 multijet. Comon! Spill the beans!

With all this talk of Abarth, would it be possible to take a standard 500 and do an engine swap? I've heard that the front bumper was extended to make room for the turbo or another part?

I quite like the idea of a standard looking 500 that goes like the Abarth! But I'm deciding against the Abarth after all, it's good fun but for waaaay less than that I could buy myself a weekend sleeper that would be much quicker. (Mark will know what this is, I imagine!) 160bhp, 900kg, £4.3k and sleeper looks? Much more fun!

That's the thing, new cars are seldom a good buy when it comes to performance. If you look on Autotrader you can find thousands upon thousands of cars which will handle, perform and sound better than a 500 Abarth for less than 4 grand and you can use the money you saved to repair, insure and fuel it and perhaps even buy some proper suspension and tyres and turn it into a track day weapon.

As an example here's the wifes car when I was playing about in the snow the other day. 200bhp, 0-60 in 6.5 and it's AWD so you don't need to crap yourself everytime there's significant snowfall plus it does 4wd donuts on the spot which loads of fun on snow :D It's probably only worth £1500 at the very very most. Plus it's rather obscure so most people won't know what it is so it definitely qualifies as a sleeper.

But if you want a new car with some performance then I guess the 500 Abarth compares a bit more favourably. But just don't kid yourself that you're going to outrun anything with a decent amount of horsepower in a 1.2 or 1.4 without a turbo because they're obviously not trying :)

I kinda agree with you guys, but it comes to personal choice. I've had over 30 cars in the last 8 years including an original 500 which I modified, so I am abit of a petrolhead. I love all cars and see merit in nearly all.The 500 Abarth is over priced but as long as you are happy with the car and are willing to pay that little extra then I can't see a problem. I used to sell Harleys and some people payed £24K for a special edition one, but there were technically better Jap bikes out there (Goldwing) but it is not the same feeling when you ride it. And there are cheape £6 Harleys that give a simialr feel sowhy pay so much more?

Kinda same here, I know the CLio and more are technically better but the 500 is just that much more to me.

Everyone could go out and buy something cheaper and better than what they want new, but even though I personally wouldnt have an Abarth 500 its much more appealing to me than any other small turbo car. That thing Maxi has posted is just naff, doesnt matter if it outperformed a Lambo it just is nasty looking, and no one really wants nasty!
Im getting a smart, which is naff and I could have gone out and bought any automatic car with a knackered box for a couple of quid which still would have a better gearchange, but I didnt want to:)

No need to be nasty ;) I'll get my wife onto you for slagging off her car :p I know it's not the prettiest car but you show me a pretty 4 door saloon designed in the 80's :p

My point was only about the performance aspect and that if people think they're getting a rocketship they should probably think again and possibly get something older and cheaper :)

P.S here's one that's not such a crap colour :p

It's not that bad is it?

Oh yes, its still bad:)
You want a pretty 80s 4 door saloon eh.... Alfa 164 and Lancia Thema:) preeeety cars!

Funny thing is I actually find the 164 and Thema to be rather unattractive cars and I say this as a person who loves a nice Lancia or Alfa. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say! :)

Sorry mate, I am not sold on the looks either. Only thing good about that car was the engine - which is bullet proof and goes like stink.

80's cars huh - Can't beat a Lotus Carlton. LOL awesome car and veery much a classic. Tho I do say this as a petrol head.

You could but you would need to swap just about everything else over from the abarth that is different or uprate standard parts suitably.

yep it is possible to fit the Tjet engine into the 1.4 500, might be a better bet to tune the existing engine - 120 bhp has been done by Fiat themselves for Massa and Raikonnen. :slayer:

I saw you too, you wore glasses didn't you? You drove the Crossover black one with a lady rep while I drove the Funk white one with Ben, the resident Abarth specialist.

I was offered £7.5k for my 1.2 Sport against the red one in the showroom at £15,145. Mark ([email protected]) was offered £8.5k on his 1.4 Lounge by the same dealer which didn't amuse me much.

Hi Ed, mine is 1.4 Sport, Bossa Nova, Red leather, Sun-roof... just in case you want to go back and negotiate !! You know you want one !

You know what the Abarth has done to me? Made me want to buy a Panda 100HP! The 500 is a nice car and all but I'm finding the 1.2 engine a bit lacking lately, especially on the hills on my way to work. I know I can't afford an Abarth but I can afford a Panda 100hp. I know it's not as fast or exclusive as an Abarth but I've always liked them, especially in grey.

Whaddya reckon? I've been told you can get them new for around £7,500!

(y) Awesome stuff, would be even cheaper per month than my 500 (when taking into account what I owe). But the next thing is, can you trade in a financed car on part exchange for a cheaper one, or will they just tell me to do one?

EDIT: Just realised SupaSaver is for outright payments, not finance. So no good for me.

Thanks for the links! Might be able to get one brand new for cheaper per month than my 500 after all.

Although my 500 is parked on the drive and almost looks sad....
